RE: This last years one-time $250. SS payment for Seniors.
Is this considered taxable income?

I am working today on my taxes so I can file for a Senior/Widow break on my house taxes. There is only a few week window to do this with my town. Getting all info together for my accountant but I cannot find any mention in my paperwork about this as taxable. I think the answer must be yes but just in case anyone is sure, I'd love to know.

Thanks

1. I don't think so.
Your accountant will know.

4. It depends on your total income. If you use any of the online
tax prep programs you will enter all your income including the $250 and the program will appropriately compute how much income is taxable.

6. screwed
that stimulos payment we got last year was bullshit. we got that and no cost of living raise for 3,4, or 5 yrs. u right- obama gives with one hand and takes it right back. i'm on disability & ss. i got medicare recently and a supplement and i still have medicade. with all that i have to pay full price for dental work. when you get older you need dentures- i do, anyway. years of putting of dental work til you have 12 mos. into the insurance plan so it will pay enough for teeth. seems stupid there's no break for dental crap. there AIN'T no dental in that big ole health reform bill either. just how does obama justify no insurance being illegal when u can't afford it. he actually said once 'to keep employer paid insurance"-- like they pay that anymore. BUT, the illegal aliens have nothing to worry about- we (tax payers) will pay for whatever they can't afford.

8. What makes you think that illegal aliens get some sort of special
medical care? Indigent people can get medical care in emergency rooms. Most indigent people who are legal will eventually qualify for subsidized health insurance under the new program. But illegals will not qualify for subsidized insurance and will not be insured.

I suspect that illegals will stick out like sore thumbs in emergency rooms. Still, doctors who take their Hippocratic oath seriously help people without questioning who they are. If a criminal is brought from the jail, if a drug addict appears in the emergency room, if a person who refuses to take medications returns over and over, chances are the doctor will help them.

If you go to other civilized countries, you will probably get the the medical care you need whether you are a citizen or not. And in many countries, your care will be free of charge.

I have a close relative who is a doctor. That is why I know about this.

3. The question is 'are you working full or part-time'? If so, then the $250 will be deducted from the
'Making Work Pay' tax credit of $400 (for single filers).

5. Whether one is working doesn't matter.
At least not according to my tax preparer who's been right for the past twenty-five years. He just finished my return and the $250 is deducted from my refund -- and I'm not working full or part time. He explained to me how the maneuver works but, as I told him, if I were capable of understanding it I wouldn't need him.

What I get a kick out of is this little maneuver is so typical of Obama, who has managed to give with one hand and take back with the other and what he's done isn't even noticed. And yesterday I heard he's talking about doing it again.
