Is Obama about to do what Bush couldn't get done?
(Excerpt)

"Obama Cuts Deal To Reduce Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid
January 20, 2010·

Hopes for any pretense of liberal change from the Obama administration collapsed yesterday, and not only because of the election in Massachusetts. While the Massachusetts voters were casting their ballots to install the upstart Republican Scott Brown to Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat, the White House was hammering out a closed-door deal to cut entitlements. Obama won the support of Democratic leaders for a plan to issue an executive order that would inevitably lead to reductions in Social Security, and especially Medicare and Medicaid.

The plan represents a capitulation to conservatives in both parties, and would leave Democratic liberals accepting unconditional surrender not only on health care, but on the most basic of all New Deal programs. As hopes of even a tepid health care reform wane, the effect of this plan, if accepted by Congress, will be to undermine the only single-payer health care programs this nation has ever known –- Medicare for elders and Medicaid for the poor. As an attack on entitlements, it has the potential to go beyond anything the Reagan and Bush administrations were able to achieve."

4. This was stunning news to me.

Little by little the veneer has been peeling away from this fellow and I've grown weary of those whose chauvinistic loyalty inclines them to making lame excuses for him. The simple reality is he rode into Office on money he took from the financial elite, his cabinet appointments are clear evidence of his affiliations, and while he's done a lot of relatively insignificant good things his record on truly important matters, such as holding the Bush Crime Family accountable and getting us out of the Middle East, is in fact abysmal.

That he is better than Bush is comparable to saying colon cancer is better than lung cancer. I voted for him but my opinion of him has reduced to where I no longer believe anything he says and I regard him as an articulate bullshit artist. An Ivy League con man.

18. Are you?
I wouldn't figure that Democrats would buy into right-wing memes and disinfo quite so eagerly as you do. Certainly "actual" democrats wouldn't constantly peddle the stuff as undeniable fact.

This shit has been debunked. Multiple times. I think you and the rest of the "actual democrats" should start reading "actual information," rather than secluding yourselves to self-salving "FUCK OBAMA HE SUCKS!!!" garbage.

It's not just wounded pride either, but the twisting the knife in our hope. Even when we finally win one, we still lose . We still lose, even though Reagan-Bush elitists and their laissez-faire nonsense are discredited by the smoking ruins of our national economy. We still lose, because the PTB were thinking ahead and snuck a trojan horse candidate into our party. When they needed him he was ready to go. Before the election, to get elected by Democrats, he was FDR and MLK - or that's how he talked anyway. But now that he's President he acts like he's Reagan's love child.

11. IT IS PROBABLY NOT TRUE!
I don't like to use caps, but no deals have been made about SS.

5. I heard Obama today and that is not what is going to happen.
They have tried to push these false rumors before.

Even Ben Bernanke said that SS is NOT in trouble.

Who writes this crap?
I thought Obama was setting up a panel to DECIDE what to do.
Nothing has been DECIDED yet.

I have no idea what you are saying.

But, if there had been a decision it would have been on Olbermann AND Maddow.

It was not.

21. RW BS- No, he is not going to privatize SS which is what Bush wanted but
if he gets re-elected and SS continues paying out more per year than it takes in, I expect him to approve some kind of fix to shore up Social Security, probably by raising the current cap on taxable earned income so that those making over $100,000 year earned income will pay SS taxes on all of their earnings.

22. eliminate the cap and raise the capital gains tax.
That would bring in a ton of new money right there.
I can see the retirement age being lifted as we are living longer.
