5. You give me an idea I had not considered...

We should all be going to the town hall meetings, and getting up and telling our legislators to "do whatever it takes to protect our Medicare, and we don't care what happens to the people coming after us". It would make that stand so repulsive that even the Paul Ryanites would be cringing. LOL. People who know us would see the "sarcasm" in it, and the people who think that we are serious will be trying to distance themselves from that opinion. I could almost do that.

There is too much waste and theft from the system, and that should be reined in before we throw in the towel.

About 10 years ago, a new radiation treatment for prostate cancer came on line. A single course of “intensity-modulated radiation therapy” cost Medicare about $42,000. The older radiation therapy cost $10,000. Hospitals bought the new machines and stopped using the traditional method. This tacked another $1.5 billion a year to Medicare spending on prostate cancer alone.

Did the fancy new machines do a better job than the old ones? Medicare did not inquire. It just paid. Amazing.

The bill includes two directives; one that will end "donut hole subsidies" and the other are adjustments to medicaide, which pays for nursing home expenses would impact those folks also.

9. You make a very good point. The highest Medicaid expenses

are to provide care for the elderly who are in nursing homes and have gone through all the assets they had. And that doesn't take long at $5,000+ a month for just the basic care in a nursing home.

What are we going to do with all the elderly who run out of money? Put them out on the street? Hey, there is an idea.
