Sign White House Petition on Bernie Sanders bill to strenghten instead of gut Social Security

The White House has put up a petition site. We need to see how seriously they are going to take it by demanding that they protect and strengthen Social Security and other past progressive achievements rather than dismantling them at the behest of Wall St. This petition needs about 500 more signatures to reach 5,000 that the White House said it takes to get them to respond to it.

Here's my support Sanders on Social Security one:

Unlike most government programs, Social Security has its own dedicated tax and is solvent until 2036.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, in S. 1558, has proposed gradually removing the cap on income subject to the Social Security tax, which would make it solvent for 75 years, and able to pay full benefits.

Removing the cap would also make this a flat rather than regressive tax.

Support this bill and refuse to support any "reform" such as privatizing, means testing, or raising the eligibility age that would weaken it for those who need it most in the working and middle class.

Sen. Sanders reform would strengthen the program whereas anything proposed by Wall St. would would take the "security."

Washington has done enough for Wall St. It's time to protect average Americans from them.

The Catfood Commission (National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform) wanted to raise the retirement age as a ''reform.''

Since the program is solvent for 25 plus years, any talk of ''reform'' other than the sort Bernie Sanders is calling for is a backdoor means to privatizing or weakening it.

I was even leery of Obama's payroll tax holiday since the reduced revenue could later be used as an excuse to cut benefits, or replacing those lost taxes with general funds would be the first step toward moving the whole thing into the general fund, making it easier to cut.

Imagine if our wars had their own revenue stream and could pay for themselves for the next 25 years--would there be any talk of defense cuts now? They run way in the red and the self-styled fiscal conservatives are usually the same pols want 100 year wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and any other country with oil reserves or pipeline routes that oil companies covet.
