http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=29077 Australian scientists have developed a simple technique to rejuvenate the immune system which shows promise in helping cancer and HIV patients better fight their disease.
The Melbourne researchers, led by immunologist Richard Boyd, are also hopeful their discovery will reduce the risk of rejection in transplant patients.
Associate Professor Boyd, of Monash University, said the find represented a "paradigm shift in medicine", better arming patients to battle their disease rather than trying to attack the symptoms.
He said the new technique involved giving patients a constant dose of a naturally-occurring hormone, known as Leuteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LHRH), via a slow-release implant under the skin
