But let us get serious. Joint Egyptian-Polish expedition started the dig of fully preserved tomb of Pharaoh Amenhotep I in Kings Valley near Luxor. According to Dr. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, archeologists are close to the greatest discovery. He considers the discovery in Dra Abu al-Naga region as important as the discovery of Tutankhamun tomb in 1922.

Precious treasures and rarities will be presumably found at the burial place of Amenhotep I. "We cannot even imagine the abundance and value of treasures and rarities and the amount of gold which we may find in the tomb of Amenhotep I", Zahi Hawass says enthusiastically.

His colleague, Egyptian archeologist Sabri Abdel-Aziz, said that after the discovery of the burial place of Amenhotep I it would be hard to expect new discoveries of such importance. According to a Russian book "Empire" written by G. Nosovsky and A. Fomenko, "famous 18th dynasty dates back to 1570-1342 B.C. According to our concept, this dynasty is a reflection of Ottoman Empire of the second half of XVI-XVI centuries A.D." Then the authors give a chronological shift of about 2800 years.

My Egyptology is weak these days, but he was a pivotal figure in Egypt's middle period, IIRC. The article seems to say that.

I've spent two months working in Egypt this year, so naturally I took some related books with me.

Howard Carter got so tired of questions about "tomb curses" in re Tut, he finally just quit responding to any letter/reporter who mentioned them.

Dr. Hawass spoke about the same subject recently in the local Egyptian press. IIRC, I read it the day before I left Alexandria, week before last.

Anyhow, the ancient Egyptian religion didn't do tomb curses. There was no such thing as a tomb curse in the entire theology.

According to Dr. Hawass, people tend to believe they are seeing a tomb curse when they see the official seals on the tomb doors--these often feature Osiris or Anubis looking scary, along with other death symbols (not too surprisingly). But the seals were just an official way to show that the tomb hadn't been entered, at least thru the front door.

Plagues of locusts? Pshaw! Last year Egypt had a couple of locust swarms that were measured in MILES (or kilometers). They're pretty used to that sort of thing.

It would so fantastic if this turns out to be a significant find and an unlooted tomb.

I love listening to Dr. Zahi Hawass speak. He is a very interesting guy and very passionate about his work.

Here's a short bio on this Pharaoh:

Djeserkare Amenhotep I (d. 1504 BC) was the second Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of Egypt. He ruled from 1525 BC to 1504 BC.

Amenhotep I was the third son of Ahmose and Ahmose-Nefertari. His elder brothers both preceded him in death clearing the way for his ascension to the throne in 1525 BC. Invaders from Libya took advantage of the death of Ahmose to move into the western Nile Delta, prompting an immediate campaign for the new king. Despite Amenhotep's inexperience the invasion was quickly rebuffed.

According to the tomb texts of Ahmose, son of Ebana, Amenhotep later sought to expand Egypt's border southward into Nubia and he lead an invasion force which defeated the Nubian response. Amenhotep commissioned the architect Ineni to expand the Temple of Karnak, including a station for the barque of Amun. Amenhotep had one son, Amunemhat, with his Great Queen Ahhotep II; Amunemhat died when he was two. Leaving no heirs, Amenhotep was succeeded by his military commander Thutmose I.

There are two possible sites for the location of Amenhotep's tomb, one high up in the Valley of the Kings, KV39 and the other at Dra' Abu el-Naga', ANB. His body was found in the Deir el-Bahri Cache above the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut and is now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

"They" haven't found SQUAT!

"They" believe they have LOCATED this tomb, and "they" are currently
tunneling toward it...

But they aren't there yet; they haven't "found" a damn thing!

Even if they are correct, and find the tomb they claim to be close to,
History tells us that the odds are about 199 to 1
that this tomb will contain:

A: SEVERAL large rooms
B: Many Broken statues and defaced walls

C: And ONE crudely-dug, 3000 year-old tunnel
which LOOTERS used to remove
every valuable item they could carry away!

Sorry to sound like such a "wet blanket", but those are just the facts.

And since "they" already AGREE that his mummy was MOVED...
Well, then we should all ASSUME his tomb was looted,
cuz that's the ONLY reason that the corpses of God-Kings ever got relocated after internment.
