Why does this author say "wormholes" connect universes when "Einstein-Rosen bridges" can be thought of as connecting two regions of flat spacetime; two universes, or two parts of the same universe.
But I did like the heads up folks moving from the 6 dimension "curl" (Calabi-Yau manifold) string theory to M-theory where higher dimensions can be large, or even infinite, in size because the dimensions are "parallel"! OK, I'll bite - what is "parallel" about two dimensions? - A universe as a membrane floating in 11-dimensional hyperspace seems to defeat the 11'eness of it all - except when these parallel sheets bump into each other because of gavity.
I would LOL except folks are really "Searching for higher dimensions" via experimental physics. I congratualte the University of Colorado fellow who thought up the tiny deviations from Newton's inverse square law for gravity, and Purdue University's atomic level attempts, but the null results bring back the urge to LOL.
I hope the LHC's exotic particles do show a few mini-black holes and supersymmetric particles - but again this is "indirect evidence for string theory" until they find those super-partners.
I wish they would have explained how string thory predicted a big bang senario that could be detected by the the space-based gravity wave detector Lisa (laser interferometer space antenna) that will be sent into orbit in 2012
And I like the statement that what happens if one falls through the Kerr ring is a matter for debate. As stated, Hawking's latest thinking is that information is not totally lost, but damn if I know what that means!
Now this free lunch of a Baby universe created "naturally" via false vacuum, like zero point energy, or "the positive energy of matter canceling out the negative energy of gravity" - are over my head. Sure could use a few more words here.
But I like the idea that we can push "GOD" back many cycles as we pass an atomic-sized "seed" through the wormhole capable of regenerating the civilisation on the other side in the new universe, and so on and so on.
