Floating debris from Japan will wash up on U.S. coast

A massive island of debris is working its way across the Pacific Ocean, the remains of a tsunami that devastated the Japanese coast last month.

The debris, which comprises trees, houses, cars and human remains, is slowly floating eastward. And scientists say it’s likely to reach the western coast of the continental United States in two years.

It will likely reach Hawaii much sooner.

University of Hawaii’s International Pacific Research Center is tracking the debris swarm, and an animated projection is available online.

eaten, decomposed. Along with anything else edible. They will see lots of plastic and some wood.
