Contraceptive pill associated with higher prostate cancer risk
There are more cases of prostate cancer in parts of the world where there is greater use of the birth-control pill and Toronto scientists who made the discovery are now starting to investigate whether the water supply is the culprit.

“I think it is significant only because it is the first time the association has been looked at. It is significant because we are always trying to find the cause. Why is prostate cancer so prevalent in our society and the so-called Western world and less common in places like Asia?” asked lead researcher Dr. Neil Fleshner, head of urology at the University Health Network.

The study, published online Monday in the British Medical Journal, notes that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in the developed world and the use of oral contraceptives has soared over the past 40 years.

The research team cross-referenced data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the United Nations World Contraceptive Use report to pinpoint rates of prostate cancer and associated deaths and the proportion of women using common methods of contraception.

2. Women have prostate cancer?
Sounds like one of the messages I got from Liberia where a woman was dying from prostate cancer and wanted to leave me her money.

4. Now, how would that work, I wonder.
Is contraceptive drug use contagious between women and men. Do you catch it from having sex with a woman who takes contraceptives? This is very confusing.

5. I find this confusing as well. Estrogen and progestin are used to treat prostate problems....
....such as cancer and bph.

It raises the question of what kind of correlation is this and how estrogen/progestin is getting into the bodies of men in a quantity to cause this.

7. Well, shit. I have a chance of getting prostate cancer just from drinking water
where the use of oral contraceptives is high? I'd much rather come into contact with BC hormones in another fashion, so to speak.
