U.S. gov't condemns 68,000 women/year to death
Okay, it's not really the title, I'm practicing re-framing the debate

It may, however, be the outcome of U.S. gov't foreign policy and meddling in the affairs of others. :(

US accused of trying to block abortion pills

Sarah Boseley, health editor
Thursday April 21, 2005
The Guardian

The US government is trying to block the World Health Organisation from endorsing two abortion pills which could save the lives of some of the 68,000 women who die from unsafe practices in poor countries every year.

The WHO wants to put the pills on its essential medicines list, which constitutes official advice to all governments on the basic drugs their doctors should have available.

Last month, an expert committee met to consider a number of new drugs for inclusion on the list. They approved for the first time two pills, to be used in combination for the termination of early pregnancy, called mifepristone and misoprostol. In poor countries where abortion is legal, doctors currently have no alternative to surgery.

1. When will it stop?
I am so tired of the US government telling everyone how they should live their lives and more specifically what women should and should not be allowed to do with their own bodies. Not only do they push their agenda on the American people, they also extend their believes upon the rest of the world. When will it stop? When will the battle to keep the government (and conservative America) out of our personal lives end?
I am also curious to why they always put the fetus' life before the women's? The facts are that women are dying from bad abortions and that two pills can stop the amount of deaths caused by bad abortions. These women deserve better. With all the medical resources available today, the fact that the government is trying to stop the WHO from preventing death only shows what kind of men are running our country.
