Misogynists are under no illusions about what porn says
Edited on Thu Dec-01-11 04:32 PM by redqueen
http://www.antipornmen.org/2011/12/01/misogynists-are-under-no-illusions-about-what-porn-says/#.TtfpbJPLTnx

After the initial deluge of abuse, ‘jokey sexism’ and plain old misogynistic hate-speech, around mid-afternoon the tweets began to change. There appeared tweet after tweet consisting of little more than the FEM11 hashtag and a link to a porn site. The tweeters of these were faceless users with no info at all about themselves, just phoney accounts presumably created specifically to infiltrate the conference’s twitter stream and push pornography on the thousands of feminists both at the event tweeting and those following it online.

And why the links to the porn sites? Why would these trolls who are actively trying to be sexist be tweeting links to porn sites? The answer is simple: because porn is misogynistic.

2. I thought porn exploited men's wallets
Doesn't that mean it empowers women? I mean, as long as they are willing and well paid.

20. the porn was meant to insult, shame the women that are not a participant
Edited on Fri Dec-02-11 01:13 PM by seabeyond
it was used as a weapon by the feeble minded men against women. as porn often is used against women. just another off shoot of the world of porn for men.

why is that concept foriegn to you?

purposeful obtuseness?

7. If gay porn showed straight people
using gays as **** toys and calling them anti-gay slurs, then maybe homophobic people would use it against them.

As it is, it doesn't, and they don't.

14. I guess you've never seen much, because I assure you, there is plenty that does.
And the actors are willing and get paid, and there are many gay men, as there are many women, who enjoy submission or even outright masochism and it does not preclude them being strong and powerful people. The idea that women shouldn't enjoy being sexual beings (and thus any woman who would act in pornography would only be doing so because of coercion or financial hardship)is a boneheaded holdover from the caveman days when women were property and their enjoyment of sex didn't matter. I think the root of the distinction is that gay porn is made by gay men and both the intended audience and the actors in the scenes are gay men as well, whereas most heterosexual pornography is oriented towards a heterosexual man's ideal. However, there is no reason that a woman cannot enjoy watching two people have sex, and in fact a Google search of "porn for women" will reveal a bounty of pornography made by women for women. My point is that most people enjoy sexual fantasy and are mature enough to view it for what it is and there is nothing wrong with that.

17. i think you answered your own question between gay and hetro porn. and
are you really under such an illusion that the people that do porn are merely being "sexual"? really? it is a job. a gruelling job. not about them getting off and enjoying sex.

and it says something pretty obvious that hetro sex has to have the female porn actress in a submissive role always. that is what the male gets off on. that is what the male needs for fantasy.

in the history of the female role, if you cannot get how destructive that continued role is, you are not trying very hard. not to be taken seriously.

12. BANNING PORNOGRAPHY ENDANGERS WOMEN
Edited on Thu Dec-01-11 04:36 PM by Ian David
BANNING PORNOGRAPHY ENDANGERS WOMEN

by Wendy McElroy

Since the mid 1980s, a strange sight has been on the political horizon. Feminists are standing alongside their arch-enemies, conservatives and religious fundamentalists, to call for anti-pornography laws.

This phenomenon threatens the well-being of women in at least three important ways:

Feminism is no longer a stronghold of freedom of speech;
Women's unacceptable sexual choices are now under new attack;
It involves rejecting the principle "a woman's body, a woman's right."

A feminist’s secret sexist fantasy – Am I Normal?
– November 19, 2011Posted in: Uncategorized

I believe the success of the Erotic Literary Salon can be traced to men and women being able to verbally express their fantasies comfortably. It is not unusual to hear stories that are clearly not within the cultural expectations of society. The following article concerns a woman who enjoys hard-core porn.

“A reader publicly rails against inequality but privately indulges in “the most demeaning” porn imaginable — why?

I am a feminist, and part of me loves porn. More specifically, the kind of porn that is created to be viewed by men. I’m not a man, though. I’m the kind of woman who will make others uncomfortable by pointing out a sexist joke in a commercial and driving the point home to people who don’t think anything is wrong with it, or by forwarding something from a sociological blog to my friends, usually something pointing out the ridiculousness of gendered products or blatant sexism. And yet, I cannot escape the fact that I find male-oriented porn extremely arousing. I know that most lesbian porn is extremely inaccurate and insulting, and it still turns me on. I’m not sure why this is, and it really bothers me. I hate how sexualized American culture has become and how all men expect women to have shaved crotches. I worry about the effect it will have on my potential future children. But I am turned on sexually (not intellectually) by the most demeaning smut. I’ve tried watching more “women friendly” porn, and the same effect isn’t there. What is wrong with me?

ETA: Gay (male) porn is men's business so whatever you want to do with that is none of my (female) business.

26. You're a man
What the hell would you know about how porn makes women feel?

Let's make a deal: I won't try to tell you how it feels to be kicked in the balls, and you don't try to tell me how it feels to see degrading porn.

And yes, it is degrading--that's why the trolls on Twitter were using it to degrade feminists. The female participants in porn have psychological problems that make them willing participants in self-degradation. Many ex-porn stars have discussed this after getting out of the business.

18. yes. people of both genders can sexually get off easily with porn.
and yet, as the woman defends the porn, she recognizes all the harms the porn causes. this confuses you? you think this makes your point? there are plenty of things in life that is enjoyable, that also cause us problems. so we have a choice. we recognize adn continue using at the least being honest, or we dont use recognizing a greater harm.

now, to be clear.... no where did you see ban. what you read is people making informed choices.

27. A few words about the writer of that 'erotic salon' stuff...
I used to enjoy that degrading stuff, too. For a long time I told myself it was ok... that the fact that I enjoyed that kind of stuff was a result of my growing up in an abusive household, and that since I couldn't change my past that it was all right to indulge that damaged part of my psyche.

Maybe she has some other reason for finding the degradation and abuse of women appealing and arousing. I doubt it. We can dance around it and try to make it seem as if it's ok, but there simply is no rational way to pretend that these things are healthy or that they contribute in any way to the process of healing.

23. You know, those same people are the homophobes who say that guys kissing is evil but girls is okay
and that big boobs are the best thing since sliced bread and women should wear heels and dress feminine. I really, really wish I had the power to change how people looked so that I could be like, "I don't think I'm the tomboy" and then turn them into a girl with big boobs and back problems. After that, those new tomboys would have a chance to see if their views on lesbianism being hot and girls always being feminine changed.
