I do know that when they filmed "Double Jeopardy," the director had a fit, because Ashley Judd looked too good in the jail scenes. He told the makeup people to take off all of her makeup. They were like... she isn't wearing any. They had to put makeup on her to make her look BAD.

than just make-up. Airbrushing, careful posing, precise lighting, multiple retakes...it just goes to show that nobody actually can look like the supposed 'ideal'.

like a model and photographed, you'll know that makeup artists and photographers can make almost anyone look stunning, although it's true that some people are more photogenic than others.

I went to a Glamour Shots in socal. I did it as an anniversary gift for my husband. It took him totally by surprise. My favorite shot was one where I was wearing a feather boa. It was a shot I never thought about before.

take this photo of JLo -- the top one is clearly stretched! her bones have never been that slender.

i've done photography in marketing communications and i NEVER, ever give a client a photo that hasn't been 'horizontally reduced" by at least 5 percent.

under the very best of circumstances, with a great photographer, diffuse lighting, etc -- every photo you see in (glossy) print goes thru massive digital re-touch.

nobody's perfect. aside from cher's pic, all of them can be chalked up to bad lighting, etc. they're pretty much equivalent to those "before" and "after" makeover pics.

21. I show that to my digital imaging classes each year

I wish health teachers showed that sort of thing as well, especially when talking about body image and anorexia. It's one thing to hear someone say the models are all airbrushed, but it's a whole other thing to actually see the two images overlaid over each other like that.

In my class, kids universally react by being horrified at how disgusting the real women look, which is depressing, but also generates a lot of great discussion in a co-ed class of 15-17 year olds.
