nothing new under the sun
"Feminism is dead. Young women don't identify with feminism. I call bullshit. Young feminists must be doing something right, because we've inspired the formation of a new anti-feminist campus organization: the Network of Enlightened Women (NeW). (I've always wanted a nemesis!)

...

NeW is now at seven campuses across the company, spreading it's anti-vagina theatrics message far and wide. I make fun, but I'm actually pleased as punch that NeW exists. Cause if feminism were dead, there wouldn't be a group out there trying to kill it."

3. it's just being young and naive
Not having enough life experience to know what your best interests are. As a young Republican, I entered college with an optimism and naivete that college and facing the job market took away. I was confident that I was going to be rich, that the capitalist system was fair, that America was always good and right, etc.

And actually I had two shots at the traditional "American Dream". My job out of college with the Air Force probably paid above median income. At least with the three promotions I was promised it would have. Later I could have kept going in school to get a PhD and then perhaps a tenure track job.

In both cases, if I had been more pragmatic or "kept the faith" I might today be smug and satisfied, thinking that the system works for people who work at it. It was only by jumping of the success train into the underbelly of the system that I got more knowledge as to how the system works so I could not be happy and deluded even if I had their personal income.
