Don't Play Politics With Personal Regret

Sunday, September 3, 2006; Page B06

Regarding the Aug. 28 front-page article "S. Dakota Becomes Abortion Focal Point":

Kayla Brandt calls herself a "mother who was sadly stripped of her child." By using the passive voice, Ms. Brandt strips herself of responsibility. The responsibility for the choice is hers. Her shame is her own.

In my opinion there is no shame to be had by any woman, and no blame to be placed upon any woman, for making such a choice. But I say, shame on Ms. Brandt for using her abortion to make a political point. One woman's experience is not just cause to deny any woman the right to make choices about her own medical care.

I gotta say, I'm not usually this smart - I had a good few moments. I was thoroughly disgusted by this "mother's" attitude of non-responsibility. I had to get it off my chest.

I'm shocked that they printed my letter. I just hope some people get it.

Here's the article: South Dakota Becomes Abortion Focal Point

3. this is what has changed--or a shift that that occured:"about her own med
ical" care. it took a few hundred years for people, professionals, the law to make this true. Now, it is shifting back to a morality issue. I realize for some it was always a moral issue.

6. This IS the place!
Thanks for sharing.

I remember you posting those words in a previous thread, on DU--if I'm remembering correctly.

Your words are succinct and very powerful.

Kudos to you on the Post printing your letter. It is an honor.

You know what I like best about your letter being published--the author of the original article will see it.

Again, congrats. :)

8. not these exact words
it took me about six hours to write those two paragraphs

:hi: thank you

"You know what I like best about your letter being published--the author of the original article will see it." Me too. I also like that Kayla Brandt - probably by virtue of her organization googling her name daily - will see it too. Heheheheee.
