Woman is the nigger of the world
Woman is the nigger of the world
Yes she is...think about it
Woman is the nigger of the world
Think about it...do something about it

We make her paint her face and dance
If she won't be a slave, we say that she don't love us
If she's real, we say she's trying to be a man
While putting her down, we pretend that she's above us

Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is
If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with
Woman is the slave of the slaves
Ah, yeah...better scream about it

We make her bear and raise our children
And then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen
We tell her home is the only place she should be
Then we complain that she's too unworldly to be our friend

Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is
If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with
Woman is the slave to the slaves
Yeah...alright...hit it!

We insult her every day on TV
And wonder why she has no guts or confidence
When she's young we kill her will to be free
While telling her not to be so smart we put her down for being so dumb

Woman is the nigger of the world

Yes she is...if you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with
Woman is the slave to the slaves
Yes she is...if you believe me, you better scream about it

5. Weeelll, c'mon. You just don't argue with poetry.
It's pretty poignant, and it's just plain undeniable that women in general, across the world, get the s**t end of the stick. The raw deal. Comparing it case by case, it doesn't always hold up, because every individual has a different lot in life.

8. I agree, when viewed globally
not just in my microcosm.

6. Short Story. When I lived in California, the Dude across the street was..
...a "Stay at Home" person. Him and his wife had 2 children.
He was a great father, worked his ass off doing EVERYTHING around the house and was totally shunned by the neighborhood. (except me...we got along great)
I came to find out he was a teacher but his wife was a doctor and made about 5 times what he could have...
Funny thing is ...everybody else on the block was having marital problems except them !

9. I got a fair amount of support
We lived without a car for many years while our children were young, and I became known as the guy pushing kids around town in that crazy all-terrain stroller/bike-trailer. I had a lot of people walk up to me, mostly elderly Women, and say "OMG.. I see you around town with your kids all the time, and I think that's so great! My Daughter's Boyfriend or Husband is such a bum, and doesn't do anything to help with the kids!" That was a real boost, and kind of ironic. Amoung fellow parents of my own generation, I really felt like a loser and an outcast.

10. It's always amazed me how some folks can be so hip....
...so understanding and other folks who (it seems) are just a pile of nasty
protoplasm.

"I really felt like a loser and an outcast".
Well...you were the cool one, Dude...so fuck-um... :)

11. Big Hug to the Big Kahuna...
...I never thought stay-at-home Dads were losers. Most I know work their butts off taking care of kids and house and they deserve the same respect for that job that women do. Some people...oh. Nevermind.

7. yoko ono - The phrase was originally coined by Ono ....
The phrase was originally coined by Ono during a magazine interview in 1967. ... (Wikipedia) and the song is really by ono with maybe just a bit of John.

He has reflected in his past that he treated women this way, and meeting Yoko Ono was his education :-)

12. So yoko wrote the song (with some help from John...)
?

Sounds like she educated him well, if that's what he learned from her.

13. Breakfast of Champions was written in 1973
but Vonnegut makes the attitude much older

"Fred T. Barry wrote these ads himself, and he predicted at the time that Robo-Magic appliances of various sorts would eventually do what he called 'all the Ni%%er work of the world' which was lifting and cleaning and cooking and washing and ironing and tending children and dealing with filth.
Dwayne Hoover's stepmother wasn't the only white woman who was a terrible sport about doing work like that. My own mother was that way, too, and so was my sister, may she rest in peace. They both flatly refused to do Ni%%er work.
The white men wouldn't do it either, of course. They called it 'women's work,' and the women called it Ni%%er work." p. 245

Such a bad attitude towards work. In our house, it was kid's work. As a son, I tried to foist it off on my sisters, calling it 'women's work'. However, my dad would have none of that. He had no sisters, only two brothers, so they all did what I tried to call 'women's work'.

However, I would note that none of my sisters ever did the 'men's work' of cutting grass, edging the sidewalk, or shovelling snow.

14. And, really, isn't it all just really the work of life?
Life takes work and it shouldn't all be regulated to just one group.
