Catfight!!!1
Not only has the faux controversy over the question Barbara Boxer asked Condi Rice been spun out by Tony Snowjob, Faux News, Right Wing rags, apoplectic pundit talk show guests-- it has also been sucking up a lot of energy on DU.

What was the question: “Who pays the price of this war?”

What was the bullshit spin: “Boxer dissed Rice!!!!11” “Boxer owes an apology!!” “Boxer dissed childless women!!!111”

To which I can only say: :puke:

Another question: WHY DO PEOPLE VOLUNTARILY FALL FOR THIS BULLSHIT?! Over and over again. “Even on DU.”

Well I OP’d on that question. Including the actual transcript:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=3115277&mesg_id=3115277

I even linked to this dying thread in a couple of the gossippy threads where people wanted to discuss what they thought about the spin, rather than what she actually said or the issues are that she raised...........

So the question now is: Is it worth it to provide information when people would rather argue about the spin?

Reply to a redickulous post on one of the threads falling for the faux controversy:

The era of arrogant, uniformed, antagonistic misogyny on DU is so OVER

There is a link to the actual transcript in this link. You might want to start there, to achieve an informed opinion, esp. as you "hate double standards."

"I checked the NOW website, expecting to see this headline:
"DEMOCRAT BOXER TO CHILDLESS WOMEN: YOUR OPINIONS DON'T COUNT, PLEASE KEEP THEM OUT OF THE PUBLIC ARENA"

This is a total misrepresentation of what was actually said. Or meant. It is a repeat of the Right Wing Repug Faux News Bullshit Bogus Controversy that they perpetrate on the public because THEY DON'T WANT TO DISCUSS, OR WANT US TO DISCUSS, (YELLING LOUDER NOW) THE ACTUAL ISSUES.

You didn't really check the NOW website, did you? You didn't read the transcript either, did you? It's easier to ignore the issues, fall for the faux catfight controversy and feel superior to look down on women, both women, either woman, it doesn't matter. ALL women. NOW. And present it as if you are "defending" something. As if you didn't just pick up this opinion readymade off Faux News.

Your arrogant post is the epitome of a "double standard." Pretending to be informed or outraged, with no actual information or real target for the random rage.

Women are just convenient targets, aren’t they?

4. I wish a real journalist would just ask Rice one question
Do you have any realitives that are in Iraq or Afghanastan? Sons, daughter, cousins, distant cousins?

Then they should ask her if her husband * two daughters are over there? The answer is no..

And then Cheney...

So Barbara is right...every other American is paying the price while the leaders that send the fodder have no worries...

same swipe at Rice and Boxer should still never apologize for flinging the truth in that liar's face.

This isn't about Rice being single and childless: this is about her lying and agreeing to further lies in order to send young men and women into a baseless war for the wrong reasons. Boxer is right: Rice isn't paying any personal price, nor are most of the people wailing and moaning about this. Rice is so far from understanding the consequences of her lies that Boxer, true to her name, has to open up some verbal whoop ass on her to bring her to heel. And Boxer said nothing about her not having children. She said within immediate family in the war--that also means brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, nieces, parents.

SENATOR BARBARA BOXER:
“Now, the issue is who pays the price, who pays the price? I'm not going to pay a personal price. My kids are too old, and my grandchild is too young. You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, within immediate family. So who pays the price? The American military and their families, and I just want to bring us back to that fact.”

As far as I'm concerned, pickels went much further in her dismissiveness than Boxer ever did.

Rice is the epitome of what the RWers abhor: a single, childless woman who has power, so it's laughable when limpbutt or any of them have the nerve to say shit about it: they're the first to call women like Rice "feminazis" and man haters when all of their rhetoric is about the resubjugation of women and taking all of their rights to self determination away from them.

10. Well put. Yes, the quote in the post was a DUer sneering about the "headline" he expected to find
on the NOW website.

"Who Pays The Price?" could be a new rallying cry for the peace movement and progressives. So of course the media vultures are going to create yet another distraction.

Great post. Thank you.
