Should we have laws to ensure equal prices for goods and services of equal value?
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 11:12 AM by Boojatta
Alternatively, are there ways to accomplish the same result without relying on the heavy hand of the law? For example, could selective boycotts have an impact?

Here's an example of a kind of thing that the title of this thread might refer to. Although men are on average larger than women and on average eat more in a sitting, many all-you-can-eat buffets have a policy of charging a fixed price per person that is the same for men and women. In your opinion, isn't such a policy a violation of the principle of equal prices for goods and services of equal value? Please note: that is a "yes" or "no" question, but of course I am interested in the basis of your answer and not just your answer.

I encourage everyone to participate in answering the questions in this thread, regardless of past disagreements that we may have had.

1. With regards to the buffet, I say "no"
I don't care for buffets, but I can and do cutback on what I eat during the day if I know I'm going to a favorite restaurant. In that instance, I can eat as much as my husband. (Did I just admit what a pig I am on a public board? :hide: )

9. Insurance pricing isn't the same.
Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 11:12 AM by Boojatta
How can you arrive at the conclusion that there is no violation in the case of insurance pricing?

In every state except Montana, women still pay higher rates than similarly situated men for health, annuity, disability, and auto insurance (over age 25).

4. for anyone contemplating spending time on this post

-- please read these recent threads in this forum first:

The futility of the effort should become apparent.

This third one, fortunately, got precisely the attention it deserved:

10. I might be wrong, but I count seven threads started

Two links to threads that I created in the Women's Rights forum:

Some bizarre questions for your consideration:

If someone else had posted the Original Post of the "Some bizarre questions for your consideration" thread and I had contributed to it what I wrote in this thread, then would you insist that my contributions were relevant to the thread?

11. Do you claim that a concern about possibly excessive prices
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 07:09 PM by Boojatta
based on customer gender is unlikely to be associated with a concern about poverty?

Do you claim that women aren't overcharged in a number of ways or do you simply consider the ideas in the Original Post to be so bad from a strategic point of view that you do not wish to discuss, in this thread, possible ways to achieve the goal of minimizing the overcharging of women?
