why does most porn suck, no pun intended ? Cause it rarely escapes from the social constructions of sex in the context of that anachronism of tribal subsistence societies, the lifelong monogamous pair bond (which is really a socioeconomic optimization as constructed by orthodox society, which really hasn't evolved much beyond the watchfire and the straw bed on the damp cave floor). Along with the degenerations thereof, including dominance relations, consumptive sexuality, and just plain dull-witted humping.
I recently noticed that some of it's been getting wetter, I mean better: Even 10 years ago most het porn encounters were reliably about woman acting out her traditional role of passive drawing-in and attraction with the occasional volcanic outburst once she's been convinced it's OK to f*ck, and the object she draws in a virile tower of studly penetrative power who can give her the deep probing she really wants (cable softcore is the reference example for this, has no one suggested to them that it's well-known that better results can be obtained (in terms of depth, not to speak of girth, if that's what's at issue) through a 20-minute visit to goodvibrations.com ?). At the end in the middle and/or beforehand there are some nods to love and tenderness. These days the permutations are way more interesting, the encounters much more unapologetically about shared and individual pleasure and sensuality, and the tenderness and emotional interaction much less beholden to traditional social constraints about how it all has to be sanctioned by an intimate relationship. You used to have to leave the het world and head for gay porn (lesbian in my case, I'm a guy) to get this (take Andrew Blake as a reference example), now it's more broadly prevalent across the board. Porn these days actually turns me on, vs. being something to mostly fast forward through.
The good kind. There are still tons of retardates who might as well be schtupping a fistful of ground meat they bought at the market, and then of course the real filth like Max Hardcore who ought to be caned daily until they're put in touch with their own issues regarding brutality. Lowbrow will always be around, and in a nod to our political setting here, it definitely gets worse when Republicans are in power.
The short: porn is just a reflection of society at large (which is quite consistent, given that it's currently above all a commodity - satisfying demand and all that). Some of us are lucky enough to be working on the path to evolving beyond the tribe and living the potential that the lights of the Reformation and the Enlightenment, as well as some of the nonwestern traditions, pointed at. When we all get there, sex will be (responsible) fun without all sorts of irrational conflations with unrelated phenomena (kind of like marriage vs. legal status of your household), and porn will reflect that.
Cheers, and solidarity, I have to go, uhh, take care of some business now, that's it ;)
