It's illegal to be poor
I paid into Social Security for 30 years. More than enough to qualify for SS when
I'm of age.

When I became disabled, I did not immediately apply for disability. I kept dreaming
that I would get well enough to work again and I kept trying, unsuccessfully.

I also intuitively knew it would be a bunch of red tape that would be too much hassle.

When I did finally break down and apply, it took 3 and 1/2 years, with legal assistance.

What I did not know is that there is a loophole in the Govts. favor, if you don't
pay into SS for 5 years( no matter how much you paid in before, You don't qualify for SSDI anymore.

So all I got was SSI. $603 a month in TN this year
and you get medicaid, but no dental coverage under any circumstance

I was making it and paying my car ins until I had a major dental abscess
I had to have 3 extractions and then couldn't pay my car insurance premium
I was canceled.

Of course, as luck goes, I had a fender bender, very minor, still police investigated
I got a ticket for no insurance.

December 14, I have to go before a judge
If i get insurance before then, the down stroke will make me starve the rest
of the month. If I don't I'm really fucked.
Either way, the state will revoke my drivers license and my registration.
and it will cost a huge amount to pay the state to reinstate it.

I need to drive to get to the doctor, drugstore and groceries.

I'm Fucked.

They really go out of their way to hurt the poor in this country

7. Thank you for the response. I hope justice is served. Such stories sicken me and demand justice. We
as a country are supposedly the wealthiest on earth (btw, not true) but regardless such inhuman atrocities should never happen in ANY culture but certainly not in one that purports to be wealthy and compassionate.

8. I can only guess at the pain this has caused you and he. Mine is eighteen and has a congeniatal synd
syndrome (Prader-Willi). We love him dearly as I know you do yours. I worry about his future once we are gone. He has two healthy younger brothers fortunately but they too have lives to live.

Continue your vigilant love and stay strong my friend.
Peace!

4. I live in a 28 ft sailboat in TN
that I bought with my SS back pay

I'm rebuilding it on a trailer right now
and the whole place is torn up
except for the 5 x 7 vee berth
where I'm holed up
trying to stay warm and dry

I do have a wireless internet card though
thanx to my ex who works for Verizon

It's a bit of a tight squeeze in here at the moment

9. I used to live in a rickety cabin down by the river
until the flood took it in '93. Lived in my car for 3 years waiting for SSDI. Pioneer blood, and very frugal even when I had money.

I wonder how restrictive they are with pain meds where you are?

(Only halfway kidding) ;-)

12. Thanks!
I bought this one on ebay and sailed it from eastern Long Island
to VA and planned to stay there, but couldn't find a doctor to treat me
So I brought it back here to TN

If I ever finish scraping the bottom
and get all the stuff i've taken apart
back together again. I'll hit the river here
and can get to the Gulf from here

Send me a PM, I'd love to talk

13. Please read this book...
Any citizen who empathizes with Wiley should wonder why one could be forced to endure such hardships in 'the land of milk and honey.'

The Great American Tax Dodge<\u> by Donald Bartlett and James Steele
ISBN 0-316-81135-1

"...people in Washington are taking advantage of you, squeezing from you every dollar while ignoring the tens of millions who are cheating."

This 5-year bullsh*t is just a cog in the big wheel of despotism.

Who is with me?

15. I'm sorry to hear this
Hang in there; it sounds like you're a survivor.

There really should be an exemption for owning driver's insurance, for people who can't afford it.
