This UN program is fun BUT is it for real??? Snopes doesn't know!
Hi everyone - the United Nations has a website where you can play a word definition game (vocabulary) and for each correct answer you get, they will donate rice to a needy country to help end world hunger. It's easy and it's fun to see how much you know! You might be surprised-I was!

If you have a moment-
see how much you know @ www.freerice.com
Have fun!

1. Why wouldn't the UN just do all it could without a game telling them how much?
Unless you somehow contribute with the game, I don't see its purpose other than the players amusement.

5. I don't know - that is why I am asking? And it is entertaining!!!!

I'm finding out I know the meaning of more words than I thought I did!!!
Why does there have to be such a smug, put down, "know it all" attitude with some of these progressive Democrats.

8. Are you saying my question was smug?
It is the first thing that popped in my head, something I thought was obvious. If I am the UN, and I have money to buy rice for starving people, why am I going to wait for someone to play a game and get correct answers to send it out? Sorry if you think that is smug.

7. See the ads at the bottom?
At some point, people click on them. The proceeds from the advertising, or the purchases, funds the site.

2. ad revenue, like hunger site
http://www.freerice.com/faq.html

If FreeRice has the rice to give, why not give it all away right now?

FreeRice is not sitting on a pile of rice―you are earning it 20 grains at a time. Here is how it works. When you play the game, advertisements appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these advertisements is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people.

Does FreeRice make any money from this?

No, it does not. FreeRice runs the site at no profit.

I click every day on links at http://animalrescuesite.com, http://www.thehungersite.com/ (linked together)

same idea - the ads and the linked stores pay for the food donations - small per click but they add up. I signed up for a daily email reminder.

4. I've been asked the meaning of Bin and Laden.
By intentionally getting a lot wrong. Bin is a container, Laden is to be "loaded". Never thought of that.
