Haiku Challenge... For Poverty?
The library has issued a Haiku challenge, literary of course.

I"m no good at that sort of thing, so I'd like to ask for your help with this.

Pick a book that has a message about poverty, and write a Haiku, and I'll put it up on the board in the library. Get more awareness built, with a little bit of fun along the way.

Seventeen syllables.

Written in three

lines divided into

5-7-5

I look forward to your ideas!

Thanks!

1. Could I get some clarification?
You say "pick a book that has a message about poverty, and write a haiku". Does this mean that the haiku has to be about a book? Or can it just be a haiku about poverty in general?

Thanks.

2. Yeah, being a library, they are in the business of pushing books.
:)

right now I'm in love with two books.... Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, and One Nation, Underprivileged/u], by Mark Robert Rank.

But I would have no idea how to make a Haiku of either!

Sorry I wasn't clear....

Other books I think of:

Street Lawyer, by John Grisholm

Milagro Bean Field War

The Overcoat by Nicolai Gogol

Les Miserables

Sorry I was unclear.... I wish I did poetry, I think this is a fun idea!

5. Two one stanza haiku; one three stanza haiku.
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 09:35 PM by 1monster
Roof over our heads
Food for my children to eat
So little to ask

********************

Mail bring many bills
Pink slip in pay envelope
Wolf stands at the door

********************

Newpaper story
Hidden in woods behind mall
A small tent city

Tent city dwellers
Evicted by mall owners
No place left to go

Tents their only homes
Destroyed by the evictors
No more tent city

*********************

on edit: My haiku was based on a newspaper article, so, per your clarification, they don't quite make the grade.

22. once you have posted enough, you will have a thing called "MY DU" that keeps track of your
posts, so you can get to them easily.

Also, you can "bookmark" a thread, to come back to it.

That helps a lot.

Otherwise, it can be like wandering in the desert. :)

I'm glad you found your way back here! :hi:
