2. It's an idea. I don't know whether any exist today.

Traditional media (and I exclude message board websites when I use the term "traditional media") function in a mostly one-way direction. The direction is from content producers to an audience of passive viewers or listeners. Of course, there are call-in shows on radio, for example, which is why I used the word "mostly" above.

Some examples of specific organizations that play a role in traditional media and that are neither private non-profit nor private for-profit organizations are: CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting), PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) and NPR (National Public Radio).
