I live in Pomona California..
It was a Grand City when I was young.. Had everyone employed locally from all the manufactures from General Dynamics to a large Foundry works..
Now its a wasteland were gangs rule the streets and NO real Jobs exist anymore..
We don't make anything there anymore........

1. Hi DreamSmoker

Back in the late 60s, Pomona had the finest public library in the whole east end of L.A. county, and the Fox theater in Pomona was beautiful..it was a real movie palace.. In the late 70s, my older brother worked at GD right after he graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with his engineering degree.. I grew up in nearby Rowland Heights, and I still live in the area, so I've seen Pomona go through the changes you describe.. a million towns across the U.S. sing the same sad song..

3. Yes, it WAS nice
When I was hired by GD in Pomona, I had to look up where the name came from (not that GD company, Pomona). Yes, naming the town after the goddess of fruitful abundance was appropriate for perhaps the town's first century, but today it rings so very hollow.

It has one of the longest running drag strips in Southern California. It's also almost the only one left in Socal, too.

An iconic place to a drag racing fan.

It also has one of the shortest shut down areas, which is one of the reasons "quarter mile drag racing" is now only 1,000 feet for the unlimited nitro cars.

It sounds like it is along for the ride, in America's continued social decay, from your description, which is probably pretty spot on.
