Fast food giant lobbies for food stamps

Yum! Brands – the parent company of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver's and A&W – is lobbying to have food stamps be accepted at their restaurants.

1. Sometimes that's all

2. I just don't get it. Wouldn't it be cheaper to eat at home? I didn't see
the inside of a restaurant until I was about 15 and had my 1st baby-sitting job.

Why? Because we were poor.

Ate better at a lower cost.

5. there are parts of inner cities that have no grocery stores for miles
but we aren't going to solve the problem by subsidizing fake food joints, and the mega-corporations that own them.

You are correct that eating at home is much cheaper by far.. but that food has to be available closer than an hour bus ride.

8. That's not always an option.
Particularly in single-parent households where the only adult might be working 15 hours a day, and not have time to cook. Or where they might not be able to always have reliable electricity and transport. Or for that matter sometimes where people simply want to be able to eat out once in awhile, to celebrate or if for no other reason than for their kids to be able to feel normal and not like they're penalized because their family is poor.

And no, a home-cooked meal isn't necessarily always cheaper. It depends on a lot of conditions.

11. I see Moms with little kids eating at fast food
places. Probably worked all day - picked kids up at school or day care, tired and so it's quick food.

4. Fast food IS NOT FOOD
it's an over-processed food type substance bearing little resemblance to the original ingredients.

We need to get grocery stores back into the 'food deserts'.. those places with fast food joints lining each side of the road for blocks, but no-where to buy real food.

10. My girlfriends daughter uses hers at Papa Murphy's all the time.
It's a take and bake pizza chain. Maybe everyone wouldn't know that. I'm not sure if it's nation wide.

I would say that it's better than fast food but not that much of a better value. She uses her food card there a lot because she is extremely lazy. Her own mother says that. There is no doubt that if she could use that at all fast food places the home cooked meals would all but disappear.

On the bright side, it might cut down on the immense pile of dirty stinking dishes she never does. She's married with five kids. Her husband works full time and does what he can at home. She gets away with just laying on her ass or playing on the computer all day. Oh yeah. She's a total evangelical christian conservative too.

12. State subsidizing of McDonalds, no thanks.
My family received food stamps. This is a terrible idea. It's already bad enough that you could just walk into a store and buy a box of snickers and a 12 pack of soda on tax payer funding. I support welfare, but that's too far.
