WPA: Creates also new tax revenue, wiping out hmlssnss, hunger
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 02:57 AM by oscar111
A new WPA would not only

1. end all joblessness

but also

2. end all homelessness and

3. end all hunger

4. set up sheltered workshops for the blind and crips who cannot do regular jobs.

How? The new WPA jobholders would generate new tax revenues of 18 Billion.... if you include sales taxes in the total. {14 million now want jobs, ... 8 million officially counted, plus 6 million "discouraged" who have looked so long they have given up active looking... but still want jobs}.

--that new tax revenue.. 18 billion.. is enough to wipe out hunger by upping Food Stamps 12 billion.

--WPA pays for its own adminstrative costs too.. 4 K/yr/worker from his wages, for administrators.

Wages 2O K to begin with, less four for administrators.
-- 2O K is what the average minimum wage worker generates, tho he gets only half of that.. rest goes to his boss now.

A WPA worker would end up getting pay of 16 K/yr. Not great, but
not bad. Better than jobless.
Adjust it down for cheap towns, up for NYC and the like.

Some hunger would end with just getting a job. No need for the Food Stamps i mention below---->
==================================
as i said, the taxes on these new jobholders.. would be enough to wipe out hunger by upping Food Stamp funds. By 12 billion, from the 18 billion in new tax revenue.
================================

Did i mention that the leftover 6 billion would also end homelessness?
====== Just 4 billion does that.

2 billion leftover then, to set up sheltered workshops for the blind, and crips who cannot do regular jobs.
==============================
see my sig below for major site advised by Galbraith of Harvard, and Clinton's Sec. of Labor Dr. Reich. Plus two Nobel Prize winners and the Archbishop of Milwaukee.
Jobs for All site.
================================
MATH footnote:
JFA site gives 9 million as "discouraged" while i use 6 million as my figure. To make my math bulletproof, i use a conservative way to figure this: I assume 3 million jobless will be absorbed by the current 3 million job openings in normal jobs, not WPA jobs. See sig, the BLS site link for the 3 million job openings figure.

1. Ends STREET CRIME too.
WPA also would end street crime {most of it}.

Joblessness --> hunger, bad moods

---> crime to get money for food + drugs to lift bad moods

------------------------------
WPA, by creating jobs for all, would end street crime.

And end half the drug culture.

The other half, .... due to the well-off wanting better-than-usual moods, will continue. Their crimes are white-collar crimes. But that is another book.
------------------------------
The most feared crime is street crime --- muggers, carjackers, burglars. WPA would end that. {mostly}.

2. WPA was '3O's program, Gov. created jobs to reduce joblessness..
such as building parks, building bridges, writing current history, creating a photo history of the times, etc.

WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION.

Credited with saving many from starvation.

Just a note for the newbies here.

PS gov has created jobs many times ... in the 18OO's about three that i know of.. every economic crisis.

See JFA site in sig, for a page that details this history.

4. WPA also headed up many arts projects
Burr Tillstrom, creator of my avatar Kukla, got his start as a puppeteer in the WPA in Chicago. He gave the WPA credit for helping him hone his skill and become a professional. One of his directors was Thornton Wilder.

In New York, John Houseman and Orson Welles worked on WPA projects.

5. Sign this petition to the government to revive the WPA .

Sign this petition to the government to revive the WPA .

At least get them to start talking about it.

There is a petition on the Whitehouse petition site.
shortlink - http://wh.gov/jja

long link - https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/%21/petition/crea...

If a petition on there gets 25 thousand signatures in 30 days, the Whitehouse will have to respond.
