1. Grilled portobello burgers are good
and I really love corn cooked in the coals. Last few BBQs I've attended I brought Elad's pasta salad recipe from the stickied recipe thread and everybody loves it.

3. We do potatoes in foil
cube potatoes, add margarine, chopped onions, salt and pepper, wrap in at least 2 layers of foil and put on the grill. Yum

Works better if you boil the potatoes a bit beforehand. They take a long time to cook but they are so yummy.

4. Have you ever tried rutabagas on coal?
(you can also sub turnips if you can't locate the rutabagas)

Puncture the rutabagas w/ fork (just like potatoes)

Wrap the rutabagas in foil together w/ a slice of (all or one or two) onion/green pepper/tomatoe--add a dab of soy margarine or olive oil and season to your taste.

Grill until softened like a potatoe.

Enjoy the hidden delight of the secretive rutabaga on foil!

5. Slice eggplant, zucchini, onions-very thick. Red, orange, yellow peppers,

the long way, not the hollow slices.
Brush them all with olive oil, or even better, toasted sesame oil and garlic.
Put them on small grate on top of barbecue and grill them.

6. Not to grill, but a salad White Bean and Tomato
32 oz can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
3 stalks of celery, slice thinly on the diagonal
2 large tomatoes, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 T. olive oil
2 T. lemon juice
dried oregano, salt and pepper to taste

Just mix it all together. It's good at room temperature or after it has been chilled. I made this for a family reunion picnic one year and my Uncle couldn't stop eating it :-).

7. Have you ever grilled peaches?
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 11:07 AM by flamingyouth
Just as a small side... It might sound a bit odd, but they are very tasty. Just cut them in half and toss them on briefly. You can put a tiny bit of sauce on them if you'd like. :9
