1. Yes, but
how good depends on what kind they are and how you make them.

Canned refrieds are pretty good, but high in sodium.

They are cheaper and healthier if you make them yourself, and it takes next to no effort.

2. What a great website
thanks...my VRFB is only 540, so not as much sodium. I'm having a bunch of eating problems. I get indigestion/acid reflux from everything, headaches,gas....all around feel lousy BUT VRFB is the only thing I seem to feel great when I eat it....WHY?

3. Wow, I'm sorry to hear that.
I had horrible reflux for years, so I know what that can be like and how it can affect your whole life. Like you, I had a really hard time figuring out what foods worked for me and what foods didn't.

(Insert PSA here: if you have chronic relux, PLEASE see a doctor. I was too dumb to realize that I wasn't supposed to feel that way all the time, and now I have a precancerous condition and have to have biopsies every other year. SEE A DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE FREUENT ACID REFLUX!)

Your reactions to foods could be due to a lot of different things--you might consider seeing a nutritionist to try an elimination program to figure out what your food sensitivities are.

Have you tried other bean/legume dishes to see if they are also comfortable for you?

4. I'm trying to learn what might
help. I don't do doctors and will try and make a nutritionist when I can afoord it. Unfortunately, a $5000 dental bill comes first.

7. Not much new here.
So glad to be back in IL near family and friends. Enjoying the busy summer, and still getting unpacked. Only complaint is work for my husband is very slow, but the bills are still coming fast. ;-)

9. serryjw, try vinegar for the reflux
" I get indigestion/acid reflux from everything, headaches,gas....all around feel lousy "

This should be a new thread, but here goes --- I had acid reflux for probably five years or so, and finally read where this Bragg organic apple cider vinegar can help your stomach produce enough hydrochloric acid to stop the reflux. The cause in some of us (MORE likely "MOST" of us!) is not an excess of stomach acid but not enough of it, hence our food is is not being digested properly.

Drink it daily, it doesn't have to be strong, say at least a teaspoon in an 8-oz glass of water, add a little raw honey both for its health benefits and to improve the taste. But do it regularly, it may take a while for the effects to seem long lasting but it will give you immediate relief.

Make sure you drink plenty of water daily too, preferably not straight from the tap.

8. Yes!
Refried beans have lots of fiber and a good amount of protein. Just ask what they're fried in--some are fried in lard, which is bad for you because it's high in cholesterol and saturated fats, and bad for the animals because it's made from them.
