Just got back from a week in Seattle

I am jealous for any of you that live there. Coming from Wisconsin, it was like my family was in vegetarian heaven in Seattle. Both my kids declared that they would eat every day at this fabulous restaurant we found in Chinatown--Vegetarian Bistro.

For those of you that live in communities like this, realize how great you have it.

4. It was great.

My 10 year old son ordered the pot stickers and ate about half the order by himself. I had the General Tso chicken which was the family favorite.

My wife and I told my daughter she should move out there after college and then we would come out near there for our retirement.

Yeah, there are a lot of options here--I admit that I take it for granted too often.

What brought you out here? Anything specific, or just a summertime trip?

3. Just a summertime trip

Our kids are 10 and 13; we are trying to get them to all parts of the country. We realized we had not been to any part of the pacific northwest and the kids love mountains. We went out to the snoquamine (sp?) falls area. Very pretty. Went to a blueberry farm and picked some of the most delicious blueberries we have ever had. My kids loved the blackberries in Gas Works Park.

It was just nice to go into a restaurant and have a substantial part of the menu consist of vegetarian options. Even when we went to Zeke's Pizza in Bell Town there was a 1/3 of a page of vegetarian combinations. Mama's Mexican was out of this world. I just about passed out when I saw tofu fajitas on the menu (and they were very good).

I grew up there, but I was dragged here to hell (Phoenix) and it looks like this is where I'll stay.

5. I'd love to live somewhere with offerings like that

Around here I'm lucky to find any vegetarian offerings, and usually if there is one it's the standard veggie burger and fries. I've never even seen a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. :cry:

9. I'm in the suburbs (actually, my house is in the middle of the woods) but

I still have TWO vegan restaurants only about 15-20 minutes from my house. Vegan Chinese and Vegetarian Indian food. Less than 10 minutes away, there is an all-natural omnivore restaurant. They have many vegan options and the staff will definitely do whatever to accomodate different needs. They even make casein-free soy cheese pizzas, although I do eat dairy, so I get regular cheese.

10. We had lunch at Vegetarian Bistro today

After looking at this thread for more than a week, we could hold out no longer. Yum. :9

11. Yeah, it's pretty good.

There was a different Buddhist Chinese restaurant in that same location that closed last year--called "Wholesome Vegetasia"--that was actually better, IMHO. They specialized in teas, and cooked everything in green tea seed oil, which has an inobtrusive, light flavor.

I cried when I saw that it had closed, but was heartened when this place filled the vacuum.

Hopefully enough people will go to the Vegetarian Bistro often enough to keep it from being closed.

If you ever visit again, you should also try Teapot Vegetarian House. There is another vegetarian Chinese restaurant called Bamboo Garden, but I haven't been there, yet, so I don't know if it's good, or not. Oh, and there is also a vegetarian Thai restaurant called Veggie Veggie in the University District.

12. We finally went to Veggie Veggie, yesterday.

Best Thai food I've had in Seattle.

You're the third person who's raved about it.

Bamboo Garden is pretty good too. Very nice people own it - they used to be customers of mine when I owned a store. They do a great business being so close to Seattle Center. And I also like Teapot Vegetarian House as well, though I haven't been to their new location yet.

16. I would like to try Bamboo Garden. The new Teapot location is

attractive; though, if you go when it gets colder, don't sit near the door as it's frightfully drafty.

Veggie Veggie makes their food spicier than other Thai restaurants. I prefer a four or higher star when I get Thai, but my girlfriend likes a three--we got a three star at Veggie Veggie, and she said it was almost too hot for her taste, so be careful what you order (unless, of course, you like the burn). Though maybe it was only hot in that instance.
