Payless used to have a lot of non leather, but not so much anymore and they are sooo uncomfortable.
Lifestrides are great and available at a number of stores. I've gotten three pairs in the last week :hide:

Why is it that I can never find a vegan shoe that's an actual tie-shoe? Everything is always sandals and slides, often with heels. The only other thing I've found is canvas sneakers which would destroy my heels and have my feet soaked the first time I wore them out in the rain. :cry:

3. I need a sturdy tie-on oxford or sneaker

Because of the nature of my jobs I can't be wearing anything that can slip off or make it difficult for me to maneuver or run. I've bookmarked some of the links for future reference. Right now there is no way I can afford $50-100 for shoes. I'll have to deal with the cheesy vinyl K-mart things I have for the time being.

These are a vegan version of the inverse-heel Earth shoes that were popular in the 70s. They have a large selection, but are a bit pricey. I haven't tried them because I am leery of buying shoes I can't try on first, since I tend to have a hard time finding a good fit anyway.

6. I'm a big fan of their shoes

I have the Ipanema espadrilles in coral and a pair of red mary jane flats for winter. I like the negative heel, but they're not for everyone. If you buy them from zappos.com you can send them back free if they don't fit. :hi:

8. BTFS, check out the Vans Old Skool model

Parts of it are canvas, but they're a LOT like my Rowleys. I've never had a problem in rain.

I'm also a big fan of New Balance. Their synthetics are VERY good (I'm wearing cross trainers right now that pass for work shoes...no lie). Many are also union made here in the states.

They have a surprisingly good selection of the US-made New Balance sneakers. They have the China-made ones as well, but I didn't notice them being any cheaper.

Sporting goods stores sometimes have good sales on them as well. If you were somewhere on this end of the universe I'd suggest you check at Big 5, but I'm guessing they don't have those out there.

4. I have bought many shoes from Payless, mainly

because the store is just about 2 miles from my house. I would love to shop for shoes online, but I have a lot of foot problems and have to try the shoes on beforehand.

I use to buy lots of shoes at Payless also. I too notice they don't have as much non-leather selection anymore.
