Question about Spinach-scare
OK - so I still have most of this bag o'spinach. All the "news reports" say THROW IT OUT.

BUT - doesn't cooking it kill the bacteria?

So - should I just throw it out (I hate to waste!) - or do you think we'd be 'safe" if I cook it?

FYI - none of us, as yet, seem to be sick. Though that brings up another question - how long after eating would it take before you got sick? If we had it last night for supper, should I still be worried? Or should I "worry" for *just* 24 or 48 hours or something? Anyone know?

Damn, you'd think they'd do a better job of reporting and providing good/accurate information!

1. I think it will be OK if you wash it thoroughly
and then cook it. I believe the heat kills E. coli.

2. answering myself.....
Cooking does "kill the bacteria" - but this is a particularly virulent strain - so they don't want people taking any chances - so throw it out. (Especially as most people just "wilt" the Spinach - so it might not get hot enough to kill it.

The INCUBATION period is normally 3 to 9 DAYS! - though slightly more or less has occured. 24 hrs or less is very unusual, however.
