Scripps, McDonald's plan joint study on child obesity

September 15, 2006
Scripps Research Institute and McDonald's announced Thursday a collaboration regarding research and educational initiatives to drive progress toward a solution to childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Using $2 million from the fast-food provider, the La Jolla, Calif.-based biomedical research will work under the auspices of the newly created McDonald's Center for Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity.

3. They already have.
Tobacco companies have been major funders of smoking-related studies for decades, the vast majority of which are tied to non-disclosure agreements. If they don't like the result, you'll never see them unless somebody decides to whistle-blow and risk losing their job.

It keeps them deep in studies to cite to defend their existence and allows them to stem the release of information which may harm them.
