If you've been following along, I stated the situation, here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=231x14600I followed up last night after a humane liberation, here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=231x14689Here's the update...
Rescued dog is doing well. Fever is down, she's eating, tail never stops wagging. She has a long road ahead of her, but she's going to live and prosper. These scars will always show, but she'll forget that they're there:
The local Fox station may run with this story.
This morning, an access point was provided to animal control officers. They couldn't breach the fence without due probably cause, so it was breached for them. They were horrified at what they saw. They knew about him, a "hobbyist" he claims, as they knew of his other operation (23 more pitbulls, there). They didn't know he was breeding them.
Strike 1.
They found 2 of the animals on the property to be unacceptable. As I stated, there was reason to believe they were being used to fight. That's a couple criminal charges that are being brought against him. Felonies. "Abuse" and "animal cruelty" are both in the reports, and they'll be pressing charges.
Strike 2.
The owner has 24 hours to provide vet care and to bring proof of same AND the dogs (no suiciding them, dumbass) to animal control to prove he's done as told. He's getting cited on top of the charges, $115 per day, per dog, until he gets health certificates for all of them. They've all been documented, so none can just "disappear" and we made sure of that.
Strike 3. You're out.
You're out of time. You're out of luck. You're out of business.
This is no "Mission Accomplished" statement. Just an update. We still have a long way to go.
As I stated in the first post, Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum...if you want peace, prepare for war. We considered the endgame before we got started. Textbook. We ensured that these dogs can't "just go away" and they won't be euthanized. No more animals will be brought into this situation, no puppies born to fight, suffer and die. He's out of business, and about to be deep in debt. With any luck, he'll be incarcerated. We were prepared and ready for anything. Many tons of luck and "things happen for a reason" here we are.
To anyone thinking pitbulls are such a terrible breed, this is my hand in these pics petting a couple dogs still on their chains in that yard. Unsocialized pits, born to breed and fight. Also, obviously born to get belly rubs and pet on the head. They're in excellent shape compared to the others. As they aren't evidence, I can post them here:
We'll seek custody when it's all over. When we get it, that'll be peace for them.
