NIGHTMARE at Primarily Primates in Texas!!!
For those who has not heard the news, the Texas Attorney General has put Primarily Primates into receivership because of the horrific conditions/care the animals were being given. PETA had filed a suit against them. They have ten days to gather evidence against Wally (the drunken owner/operator) before a judge determines if Wally gets the facility back or it gets handed over to a new group. My sister is heading down from Dallas to help them evalute teh situation -- from what she ahs heard already, these poor animals have been abused in the worst way.

Check out the PETA website to get the truly horrific story and give a little $$$ to help the primates.

1. Real sorry to hear this
I've donated to them in the past. It's not the first time I've given to an animal rescue group only to find out later they weren't what they claimed to be. Perhaps PETA could develop a certification program for animal refuges to try to ensure humane standards are being met.

2. Yes, for years they were THE primate...
rescue group.

It is very disheartening to find a group that you have supported and trusted has betrayed that trust -- and the animals.

I spoke with my sister the other night and she said the situation down there is grim -- they have 800+ animals at the compound and have to find new homes for at least 3/4 of them. Animals that were not spayed or nuetered are breeding like crazy, making the problem even worse -- they have over 100 guinea pigs that have reproduced unchecked. They have a team of vets in trying to do health checks on the animals.

Interestingly, there is a group called the American Sanctuary Association (I think) that is supposed to certify groups like Primarily Primates. My sister had her domestic rabbit sanctuary certified by them. It seems the guy doing the certifications is alleged to be involved with taking money for certifications and embezzlement of non-profits.

Texas is known to be a hell hole as far as animal protection goes -- you can do almost anything down there and get away with it. :( If PETA hadn't stepped in, Primarily Primates with Wally as head would still be in business.
