Hello. I just joined the veg. group this evening.
Some of you may not remember but awhile back in the DU Lounge, I announced that I was going to go Vegetarian but I was going to do it slowly. So far, I am still working on it but since New Year's Day, I no longer am buying meat or meat products at the grocery store. I am still eating meat but only if I go out but I do not go out to eat that often and so I am getting closer to my overall goal.

The only thing though is that I will continue to eat dairy (I am a cheese junkie! HA HA!) and eggs. I guess that would make me a "lacto-ovo vegetarian". There are some things I simply will not give up. Me becoming a Vegan? Forget it. I will not go that far.

Anyway, just thought I would stop, say Hi and tell you about my progress.

John

1. Hi and welcome!
Glad to hear that you have a plan and that you're putting some thought into what is going to work for you.

What is your motivation, if you don't mind me asking? Anything in particular?

Feel free to ask if you need any recipe ideas or anything,

2. I am doing it for health reasons.
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 10:17 PM by Cascadian
About a couple of years ago, I had a pancreatitis attack and it was at that time I decided to quit drinking and change my diet a little bit. I also worked at a sausage natural casing warehouse. It turned me away from eating sausages and not only that I got celutitis (All in the same year!) a bacterial inflammation of the leg. I am convinced that bacteria came from the warehouse. I just want to eat healthier and not get sick so much anymore. It's not an ethical issue with me. It was a personal health/lifestyle choice.

Thanks for the welcome.

John

3. Congratulations
I weaned myself off meat in a similar fashion and have now been vegetarian for almost two years. Keep up the good work!

9. Welcome John! We're always glad to have others join us.
We share a wealth of information between all of us & this is one of the kindest & most encouraging forums on DU.

I second the suggestion to visit the recipe thread, especially when you fall into a food rut & can't think of anything veg that sounds good. And here is another great site with a ton of recipes: http://vegweb.com/

:hi:
