Urgent! Please help me make a really really important decision.

I rescued a dog from a really abusive situation. She's wonderful. I named her Mila. She's like a cross between a jack russell (not parsons) and a dachshund. Anyway, I've only had her for about a week. Last week I took care of the shots, vet checkup, everything like that. The vet could not spay her until today.

Now, here's the problem. The people who had her last wanted to breed her (I don't know why anyone would breed a mix breed dog intentionally...but who knows). They got her from an even worse situation. She's two years old and she has not been spayed. She is swollen and the vet said she is either going into heat or coming out of it. The thing is, she might be pregnant. But if she is, it is too early to tell. I really do not want to bring more puppies into this world. The vet said he can spay her whether she is pregnant or not. He said the other option would be to do a blood test to see if she is pregnant. The test is very expensive. Should I go ahead with the spay? If I do and she is pregnant, the puppies will die, of course. However, if I don't, and she is pregnant, I'll have to find homes for unwanted puppies. What should I do?

Yep, I'm keeping her. She's wonderful! I have four cats (2 brothers and 2 sisters) and they don't mind her at all. Probably because she is only 10 pounds and Stitch is 13, Lilo 14, Kenai 15 and Koda 16 (all approx, I just round). I'll post a picture when she gets home and is feeling better.

Vets can spay even when pregnant, though some won't. Then there's the whole "abortion" issue there, which I'm not even gonna touch on.

7. One of my kitties was already "in the family way" when I took

her in. It have been good for none of us. She was too tiny and young.

Do what you feel is right. Love her, and do what you feel is right.
