4. The thing I don't get

is why these people seem to revel in baiting vegetarians. They know that what they're doing troubles others-and they seem to REALLY enjoy causing distress. Same with the hunters that gleefully shove their photos of their kills in everyone's faces. They seem a bit too much like Freepers to me; hating others for their compassion.

You got to resist before you change. The person
feeling threatened to the point of having to poke
and mock is more likely to change than somebody who
doesn't even care. And even if he doesnt change himself,
somebody else will feel the cynicism underlying the
question and may be nudged toward vegetarianism. Either
way, I dont get upset about it like I used to. My own
change came suddenly and completely unexpectedly, so you
never know.

I didn't so much resist as a I bought into the happy animals on the farm image and the "you must eat flesh and milk or wither away" propaganda.

1. Always thought eggs were gross
2. As a child, hated cheese - wish I coulda stuck to that - now vegan cheese only
3. Never liked mammals or fresh water fish much. Only lobster and shrimp. Got over that after reading about the lives of ocean animals.
4. Never liked milk, ate cereal dry as a child.


The change was late and unexpected for me though, just as you describe. A series of events including my mothers hospitalization, SuperSize Me, Fast Food Nation and Food Revolution along with Meat Your Meat.

I am trying mightily to adapt a speak softly and carry a big collection of factual data approach. It's really freakin' hard sometimes and for those who poke hard, well, sometimes you get what you get.
