Animal Welfare League missing director and $38,000
STAFF REPORT
PORT CHARLOTTE -- Michael Courchaine, director of the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, has not been seen by the league's workers since he took a two-week vacation in June.
Now Charlotte sheriff's investigators say they are looking into whether there's a link between his disappearance and $38,000 missing from the nonprofit's account.
The league has operating expenses of more than $500,000, according to its filing with the Internal Revenue Service.
In Courchaine's absence, employees have discovered the missing funds in addition to extra paychecks and plane tickets to Turkey, where workers think Courchaine might have fled, said sheriff's spokesman Bob Carpenter.
James Nahl, vice president of the Drance Street shelter, told deputies that league board members believe Courchaine is in Turkey. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (941) 639-2101.

This is one of those stories that I fantasize about at night. No, it's not me and Tina Fey getting nekkid and freaky. It's me sitting in a bar and having this asscrack start a conversation with me about his newfound wealth.
