This has to be the stupidest thing I've ever read:
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/saturdayspin/343644_hart15.html

So, mink will be endangered if we stop wearing fur? And fur farms are wonderful places because the animals are killed "individually" and are "painlessly gassed"?

What is this woman on? :wtf:

1. Betsy Hart, the "author"
Betsy Hart is a syndicated columnist and conservative commentator who is a frequent contributor to CNN and the Fox News Channel. She also appeared frequently on ABC's show Politically Incorrect. Mrs. Hart is the mother of four children and author of the book It Takes a Parent: How the Culture of Pushover Parenting is Hurting Our Kids... and What to Do About It. She is currently working on her next book Let's Look at Things a Little Differently. She is now divorced from her husband after 17 years of marriage. Ms. Hart is also against the production and consumption of organic food and does not believe that global warming is primarily a man-made condition. In 1985 she graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.A. in Russian Studies. She wrote controversial column in December 2007 that suggested a woman could not be both a good mother and a good soldier.

Ms. Hart is also a batshit crazy fundie moron. "We need to have as our mission for our kids AIMING for Heaven, not Harvard."

She's also woefully inaccurate in her article. She states, "the AVMA noted that most farm-raised fur animals, which is where most U.S. pelts come from...". The US has roughly 10% of the worlds fur farms, and fur farms are responsible for 90% or so of all fur sold.

Also, "It's no accident that America's fur industry produces the most expensive furs in the world." is also inaccurate. While Blackglama is an expensive brand, Royal Chie commonly sells fur coats well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. That fur comes from Finland and Denmark, IIRC.

2. Oh wow... thank you.
I was so slack jawed after reading that, I didn't even think to Google her name. How can someone be against organic food? Batshit crazy, indeed.

Sidenote: I love women like her and her foremother Phyllis Schafly, who tell women that they should stay at home with their kids. Meanwhile, they're all over the country and all over TV, away from said home and children, talking up their educational and professional credentials. :eyes:

4. My son has a mink as a pet
it is a very interesting little creature.

It's too bad many people can't see them as they do their dogs and cats.
