2. I correct my pitbulls from time to time with a squirt of water.
I guess to correct my big Dane I should've hit him with a bottle of Jack Daniels.

3. You're bigger than me by a lot.
Next time you're misbehaving, I'm going to wing you in the leg with a .22 to get your attention. Big guy like you won't really notice, I'm sure.

4. Wait, wait...hold on...should a cop use a taser or gun based on the size
of the person being subdued?

What about prison? If an inmate misbehaves, should punishment be based on size? Little guy gets a wedgie. 300 lb guy gets shot in the face.

5. Oh dear, I hope so. My scrawny ass could get away with a slap on the wrist.
Oh, the trouble I could cause...

6. Ringling "trains" elephants with baseball bats.
Maybe I'm not being fair. Seems animal abuse in the entertainment industry is okay and I should just shut up.

Not.

7. And shocks, and big metal hooks. Supposedly they don't feel those, either.
When I was a baby, it was still pretty commonly believed that newborns really didn't have the neurological capability to feel pain. As a result, I had some surgery done with six people (my mother, my grandmother and four big strapping orderlies) holding my seven pound self down (does that sound like I didn't feel it?) but no pain medication. As a result, I don't handle this sort of callous, self-serving we-don't-have-any-reason-to-think-they-don't-feel-it-except-that-we-don't-want-to-change-our-practices crap real well.

8. Tomorrow, I'm calling my friend Carole who runs Big Cat Rescue
here in Tampa. I can't wait to get her take on the 2x4 training method. I know her, and I think that if I say something like, "my dear Ms. Baskin, what would happen if I smashed a lion with a 2x4 for misbehaving?" she'd probably laugh her ass off and say, "well, you'd have a closed casket funeral to say the least."

11. One smack and it would be "Welcome to the Darwin awards"!
Lions are a hell of a lot tougher than we are; they are built to withstand kicks from animals like zebra and wildebeest. Like any cat, they'll lash out the second they realize they're being attacked. I've hand fed an adult male Barbary lion half a raw chicken (yep, it was gross). As I was holding the chicken he bite into it, effortlessly snapping through bones as easily as you or I would bite through a triscuit. It gave me a whole new respect for the power of such animals. You can't make any cat "behave"; you can only come to an agreement with the cat based upon what is beneficial to both of you. If that dolt hit a lion with a 2x4 he'd have about a minute left on this earth to draw breath.
