We have the potential for a great year in animal welfare in front of us.

Sea Shepherd is chasing whalers, and even more eyes are on Japan to stop this cruel practice. Hopefully, this will be the last whaling season, and '08 will see then end of this altogether.

HSUS, Farm Sanctuary and others are gathering signatures to put a Constitutional Amendment in place for vote in California. This will be the biggest step ever taken for farm animal welfare.

So many other things to look forward to. Vick's state charges, potential New York carriage horse ban, several states looking at some form of mandatory spay/neuter program...the list goes on.

5. The legislator in my district who is backing this bill is the only

Republican I have ever voted for. But I voted for him because of his strong stance on pro-animal issues.

Strengthens the dogfighting law by making it a felony to own, possess, sell, buy, train or breed dogs for the purpose of fighting as well as promote, advertise or serve as a stakeholder at a dogfight. This legislation also makes it illegal to be a spectator at a dogfight and to bring a minor to a dogfight.
