Has anyone here tried a juice regime of wheat grass or other greens ?
I did a search in this forum but nothing came up. Surely this has been discussed here before??

I am thinking of going into this as a detox and fortification method and would like to know if anyone has personally gone this route.

1. I drink a green juice.
It tastes a little weird but someone gave me this recipe after I was diagnosed with cancer:

1/2 head romaine
1/2 head spinach
4 leaves kale
1 lemon
1 apple
1/2 bunch parsley
(all organic ingredients)

We have a Brevelle Juice Fountain, so you can just put everything in there, peel and all.

I don't use it to replace a meal or anything, just to get some extra veggies (even though I already eat a lot). :)

4. I will have to look up the Brevelle Juice Fountain
I would like a versatile juicer that can do other veggies/fruits in addition to the wheat grass. Some of the machines are really pricey so I want to make the most cost-effective purchase.

Glad to see you do all organics, I believe it is certainly worth the extra money. (lots of extra money!)How often do you juice? Do you use your juice like a smoothie with a meal or like a snack?
:)

6. Well, I used to drink it daily.
Typing this out reminded me that I've been slacking off and should be better about it. I usually drink it in the evenings but would occasionally have it in the late morning, it would just depend on my schedule.

Sounds like your diet is great. Good for you! :)

10. I do not know if it makes a difference
in the overall benefits, but I have been doing the "shots" in between meals, a couple hours after or before a meal. That is most certainly the reason I feel the nausea.

I have slipped on the diet before with my sweet tooth. There are so many enticing items that are organic/vegan .... my absolute favorite was the French Meadows Carrot Cake from Minneapolis. I guess even if it is organic/vegan all that cane juice or sugar or whatever rich ingredient made it so sweet probably was not all that great for you with that huge slice they served. I do have some vices.!

7. Look around at garage sales, thrift shops, craigslist, etc.
A lot of people get juicers and rarely or never use them, and eventually they get sick of dusting them off or they move, and they donate them almost new.

I got a very nice one for $5 that way. Of course I almost never use it due to the expense of decent fruit (we put fruit trees in my Dad's yard last year, so as soon as they start fruiting I'm going to have to if I want to keep up with all the free veg goodness,) but I do have it.

9. Great suggestion. I think I will do that rather than invest the couple 100
bucks for a new one.

My income has suffered a huge hit with my medical leave and I am in the process of rearranging my budget and priorities.

Thanks...

2. What are your plans with this "detox and fortification method"?
Is this a cleanse or a fortification?

3. Well, I just picked up the Ann Wigmore book
she is the guru for the wheat grass movement and after reading through the book, I thought, why not?

I have already been on a vegan diet (I still use a little honey, just a tab....) for sometime now, and until recently had wine occasionally with meals and rum at Christmas, but now I am cutting that too!!! My health has had some success, (I am totally off ALL meds at this point....including the blood pressure meds!)

But,... I have still been limping along with some health issues (I am on a medical leave from work) and a friend of my sister's wanted to take me to the Optimum Health Clinic, (San Diego and Austin) but when I looked it up, it basically followed the Wheat Grass program. I really don't want to spend that kind of precious money on a trip to a clinic as I prefer self-study and as most of us here in this ghetto, I have a pack of rescues here in the home that would cost me a bundle for the pet sitter (and that would put a strain on my sick-pay check)

But, I thought instead of a trip to the clinic I would invest in the juicer and in starting the plants here in the home.

As far as the fortification, I have been using some supplements & vitamins, however the wheat grass system users proclaims easier assimilation of the minerals/vitamins etc.

How about you? Ever tried this? Know anyone who does? The only one I know is my sis's friend and he is a real believer and looks fabulous for his age with boundless energy. He has been involved with this for very long, long time.

I am willing to try this. Just wish I knew more people who have done this and their experiences w/ it and with a late start at that.

5. Isn't Ann Wigmore a big time raw food advocate?
I do know that wheatgrass is a fantastic super food. I would think that supplementing your diet with it would have nothing but a positive impact (once you get past the taste, IMO).

Sounds like your health has already had GREAT success! I think the juicer and growing your own plants would be very beneficial.

8.  My biggest surprise this year was the normal B.P.
and, because of my job and travels for years my b.p. went out the roof on many occasions and I was on a daily dose of big pharma drugs for the b.p., sleep disorders, and so forth. A person under stress & a busy agenda has little time to thoroughly think through or have the luxury of options. Stress is the biggest "bad" factor to try to negotiate. Hard to get past it to work for a living.

But again, at this particular point in time I have no stress since I am still at rest at home and concentrating on wellness.

The taste is hard to handle, and I do feel nausea after consuming even a small amount. I have had 1 -2 oz daily now for a week and I can feel a slight difference in several significant functions. But, as mentioned above, it is not easy to find the practical schedule to juice. The machine is heavy and requires daily cleaning. It will be quite a commitment and possible life style change.

Here is a cereal box quote of the day from the Wigmore book's epilogue I found amusing:
Bad men live that they may eat and drink, whereas good men eat and drink to live.
Socrates
