Disastrous recipes

I made a German potato salad recipe with fake bacon the other day. It did not taste right, so I kept adjusting, but it got worse and worse. Another recipe bites the dust.

1. Fake bacon just isn't salty or greasy enough.
I find myself adding (garlic) salt and extra oil to any recipe that calls for bacon.

Healthy? Hell no. But we're trying to replace bacon here. :)

That being said, and despite the textural differences, Yves' Canadian Bacon is really good fake bacon. Also, several of the Bacon Bits brands are actually vegetarian.

2. We use
Morningstar bacon strips when recipes call for bacon. You have to add them at the end because they become somewhat soggy over time. I do agree with you however, nothing beats the real thing. That being said, I haven't eaten meat of any kind in over 10 years.

3. That is the kind I used

But you are right, they get soggy, and the flavor does not hold up I don't think.

4. I'm making seitan right now.
Past experience suggests that when it's done I'll have a disaster story of my very own to share- I can never seem to get the texture right.

5. Oh my god, it actually came out really awesome.
I have to start a thread with the recipe!
