Yep, that's right. As of Friday, August 15th, this bloodsport is no longer viewed by any municipality in the US as legal.
Feathers won’t fly (legally) as cockfight era ends today
BY HEATHER MILLER THE DAILY IBERIAN
For Teche Area residents who champion the long-standing blood sport of cockfighting, today marks the end of an era.
Beginning today, cockfighting is banned in Louisiana, and those caught participating in the now illegal event will face felony charges that could result in prison time and fines.
Louisiana is the last state to pass a law banning the blood sport, in which two specially trained roosters, known as gamecocks, are set loose in an enclosed pit and instinctively attack each other until one or both die or become seriously injured.
“This bill is long past due,” said Dayna Perry, director of the Iberia Humane Society animal shelter. “It’s a nasty sport where people bet against the lives of animals, and I can’t support that.”

On the historic day that Louisiana becomes the 50th state with a cockfighting ban, state Attorney General James D. "Buddy" Caldwell and The Humane Society of the United States today announced that cockfighting and dogfighting will not be tolerated in Louisiana. At a press conference held today at the East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control Center, Attorney General Caldwell and Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS, announced that The HSUS is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person involved in illegal animal fighting. Also taking part in the press conference were Hal Turner, executive director of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association Peter Dale, president of the Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police.
