Yep, so there I was at the Wild Oats checkout. Vegenaise, not-dead-to-me-yet Smart Bacon, Tofurkey slices, etc. My Pangea "Go Vegan" bag at the ready. Young, friendly guy at the checkout. He asked how long I'd been a vegetarian. I said, "Vegan, actually, and I think going on 8 years now." We had a little back and forth about why I'd made the choice. I mentioned that it was the animals first, then health and the environment. So he says to me, and this is the punchline..."Was there a wife behind that decision?"

What the hell, dude? Can't I be enlightened, compassionate AND masculine? I dunno, just kind of irked me. If I were at the regular grocery, it probably wouldn't have caught me so off guard.

So if you're a male who does not consume the flesh of the dead, you're either pussywhipped or gay. Because otherwise people have to question their assumptions about what it is to be male, and we can't fucking have that.

BTW, I was coming in to post to your other thread about Smart Bacon. Since I posted last about mine falling apart too I have opened two more boxes (I can't stop the BLT's until the tomatoes are gone :)) and they were both perfect. I wonder if it is a temporary flaw? Perfect, through out the entire box. :shrug: I hope you find the same.

Heck, my husband won't go veggie just because I cook that way. Why would it be reversed?

Yeah, cuz a man would never make a decision to be compassionate on their own.

I was never a big meat eater & I gave up red meat at an early age, but it was my husband who got me on the path to vegetarianism. He had been veggie for many, many years at the time we connected. I gave him every stupid excuse in the book against vegetarianism & his response was simply this: I try to eat as low on the food chain as possible. Then he asked me to give it an honest effort for six months.

So I guess I could say that there was a husband behind my decision. ;)

I've had 5 people, two of which are beloved gay friends of mine say that very thing.

If that's the case, I totally missed it, and I'd be very, very flattered. He was a young, bright faced fella and I'm a mid-life crisis candidate.
