Is it just me
Or have you guys noticed alot more stars/celebs wearing fur? It seems like I am seeing it more, I thought we had already gone through the fur issue years ago with celebs.

Or is it just me?

1. I'm glad you brought this up, I was going to post this thought too.
It's not just celebrities though, unfortunately. Everywhere I look fur is back in style. It's disgusting. A bunch of people walking around looking like Henry VIII. All they need is a turkey leg in the hand.

2. I was under the assumption
that is it was un-pc to wear fur anymore. I remember hearing stories about people being hassled, celebs being denied access to places and contracts being pulled.... what has happened? Is it becoming acceptable now?

Yes... I agree with semicharmed, I know that more general people are wearing it now too. It's weird.... and it's also horrible.

Myself? I would be ashamed of myself if I ever wore fur..... of course, I have been known to wear leather shoes in the past, I have since changed to cloth or rubber.... anyway... fur is a definite NO NO in my book.

3. Yeah, the age of decency is over.
People don't give a crap anymore. Cindy Crawford, I believe, once posed for PETA in an ad that said "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" Yet last year she appeared in an ad wearing fur.

4. Someone was wearing a fur coat at the food coop yesterday
I was floored. I was nauseated, because it was rabbit, and I love rabbits. I didn't say anything, but in retrospect I think I should have.

Who the hell wears fur these days? Who looks at a little bunny and thinks "he'd make a nice coat?"

Other people must have felt that way, the lady was getting a lot of sideways looks.

5. I see more fur appearing
on television too. :puke:I guess it is to be expected with the chimp in office but it is very discouraging, it's one step forward and two steps back. :-( I know I would be totally ashamed to wear any kind of fur, I don't even care for fake fur because it promotes the whole thing.

6. Society has taken a downturn.
Let's face it...lots of folks just don't care about "right" v. "wrong" anymore (Bush, Hummers, fur...all rolled into the same pathetic little mindset). Additionally, if you check out hip hop/rap music, it's all about the "bling" and many songs specifically mention fur, and the videos feature it. This filters down to much of young, urban society. Plus, you can find a fur coat at the Goodwill and Salvation Army. Really, just head down there. I'm in Florida, and when buying blankets for our rescue dogs at the Goodwill, I noticed no fewer than five various furs for sale...and I'm in Florida.

Plus, sadly, activists, myself included, have backed away from fur. I think we might've done a "mission accomplished" ourselves. Same thing with the seal hunts. It's revving itself up again, and I think we'll see renewed interest in anti-fur campaigns (PETA recently did 2 new billboards, one with Rodman and one with another tv guy from Arrested Development).

7. Fur = status
and this administration has encouraged excessive displays of it.

Putrid. These people have no compassion.
