That "Breeder" has a horrific set up, according to animal activists - From an email sent to the rescue I work with:

<<Dear Companion Pet Lovers ~

Please read this important announcement from BanOhioDogAuctions. com supporter and animal activist, Jana Kohl. This is heartbreaking to say the least, and here is what Jana shared earlier this AM:

I just received a description of the breeder/puppy mill that the Bidens bought their dog from. This first-hand account comes from a respected anti-puppy mill activist who has investigated countless mills. I also just learned that the Philadelphia Inquirer is already at work on the Biden story, written by a reporter who has exposed PA's horrific puppy mill problem -- one of the worst in the nation, along with Missouri, Ohio, and all the others. I've received emails tonight from scores of people who have already heard the news and are stunned....people who know that Barack participated in Baby's book and our project, and can't imagine how or why the Bidens didn't choose to adopt. Below is the description of the breeder the Bidens bought from, in his words.....

"When I was there, she had dogs living outside in igloos and a large side building wrapped in blue plastic... the barking was deafening... . her inspection report states approximately 100 breeding dogs... she sold more than 275 dogs in 2006.....it was a stupid move on Biden's part... a puppy mill, for sure."

1. I was deeply disappointed to learn he didn't adopt.
In fact, out of curiosity I did a search on Petfinder and found German Shepherd puppies available for adoption at shelters very near where he bought his pup. All he had to do was a simple search to find a shelter puppy. I mean, look at these beauties:

2. "purchase"
No matter where, or from whom, the very fact that we're talking about the custody of a vulnerable being as a "purchase" as if a living being were subject to transfer of ownership, disturbs me deeply.

We can't fix this society until we fix that mentality.

3. Here are the details, in case anybody wants them:
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 12:52 AM by LeftyMom
Inspection report for the owner's larger facility (I can't seem to find one for the smaller show kennel, PA's website doesn't leat you search by owner name and it's not listed under the name given in the news reports.) Note the number of dogs on the facility. http://services.agriculture.state.pa.us/KennelInspections/Reports/DisplayReport.aspx Search "Wolf Den".

Now look that address up in Google Earth. Is that house large enough for 80+ dogs? It would appear that the dogs are in the outbuildings, which is pretty much a sure sign of a mill (for that matter, so is having that many dogs on the property.)

http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/board_minutes/0406.pdf Here's where the AKC suspended the owner for a year for filing falsified paperwork.

I'll post more if anybody needs it.

6. I'm not even going back into the thread where I posted it was a puppy mill breeder
I'm sorry, but that many dogs in one facility is a mill. And, it's really fucking hard for someone to get suspended from the AKC. They have to be really bad.

7. I know!
I mean, people have registered all kinds of crazy shit with the AKC just to prove what a joke they are. Inanimate objects, cats, dead dogs... Actually, it's a pretty common scam to do "identity theft" where an unpapered dog or one from a not-that-distinguished line is substituted for a dead pup from an in-demand line and the subsequent fraudulently papered pups are sold for $$$.

It's definitely a mill- how on earth would one properly care for, let alone socialize, that many pups at once?

10. Seriously, you pretty much have to sacrifice a puppy to Satan at the Westminster show to even get a
reprimand from them.

since a lot of people seemed rather ignorant about the problem.

11. Very disappointing...
...as much as politicians parse every fart they do, I can't believe he didn't look at this beforehand.
