Sunshine Patties by EcoVegan
We received our order and had to try these patties. They were...OK, but not what I was hoping they would be. First off it says 'Serving size: 1.8 ounces and then 4 servings per container. Unfortunately there are actually 3 patties in the box. Why they did not just do the serving size as a patty and work from there I do not know. Secondly the front of the box says, 'Your smart and healthy meat alternative'. I'm not sure that 38% fat with 1.45g of saturated fat qualifies as healthy. Overall the product had a good flavor and might be OK for an occasional indulgence, but I would not say these would make for a good and healthy dietary consideration.

1. Well apparently I'm not that bright....
Today I got a letter from Vegan Essentials. Seems this company read my review of the product and replied on their website: http://ecovegan-ecovegan.blogspot.com/2010/09/first-public-review-for-ecovegans.html

Now I'm not the smartest person in the world, but I'm fairly sure when something has 144 calories per serving and the box says 54.5 calories come from fat it's definitely not 9% like they claim.

2. Seems odd that they didn't link to your review.
At any rate, at least they care enough to respond and give their reasons. I do like a company that cares what folks think of them.

Now that I think about it, I've posted a bunch of reviews here. No company has ever given a crap what I had to say.

3. I'm glad, too...
Ryan from Vegan Essentials tipped me off to it. He said, 'Wow, every once in a while there's a company who reads EVERYTHING posted in reviews, and you drew some attention from ecoVegan on the one that we put up. Don't worry, they were actually happy to get the feedback and they posted in their blog a response to your notes about the product'

I do appreciate it. Most companies would just blow off a bad comment.

That said, I hope that my comments to their website help them to understand what I'm saying.

4. I hate it when a serving size is not what one would consider a serving size.
In terms of the fat content, they are basing the 9% on a 2000 calorie per day diet (not the individual item).

To me, 6 grams of fat per serving is a healthy, low-fat alternative.

:hi:
