It's back! Hazelnut Cranberry Field Roast is back for TofurkyDay!
I happened to be in Whole Foods today and strolled past a freezer that's never been there before. Stocked with lotsa typical Thanksgiving veggie fare. Lo and behold, dozens...DOZENS of boxes of this delightful meal. I bought two. One to cook this weekend to eat for lunch at work, and one for Thanksgiving with mom.

I couldn't find one to save my life last year. Oh happy day!

4. Hope you like it!
It was REALLY good. Paul liked it, too. He bought a few to store in the freezer.

5. I was gonna buy two until I saw how much it cost, plus the 2-day shipping and the cold packs!
Could have checked with our local store, but am too lazy. Plus I like to get stuff in the mail. :)

6. The shipping plus cold packs are killers.
I'm so thankful that Whole Foods sells Daiya now. I'd have needed a second job!

Let us know how you like the roast, please.

7. I'm glad you found something you like.
I had the regular field roast & I was so looking forward to it. I didn't like it. The center part was ok, but the outer part tasted like lunch meat to me. ??? The Tofurky loaf was disappointing, too. Not nearly as tasty as the smoked deli slices. All these vegan replacement products & in the end I like my lentil loaf the best.

BTW, does your mom eat the field roast or does she prepare something else?

8. I am not a big fan of Tofurkey. I prefer Quorn or Gardein.

11. No, I just meant fake meat in general.
Their fake chicken is good, but I don't like the flavor of the sauce on the buffalo chicken wings.

12. I agree.
The sauce is too bitter with no real "flavor".

We really like the Beef Tips and the Chikn marinara.

9. the first
"tofurky turkey" I ever had was simply awful - but that was our first Vegetarian Thanksgiving back in oh 2002? maybe.

The other Tofurkey products seem to have improved greatly in the past couple of years. So I'm wondering if the "turkey" has improved, too. Any opinions on that?

Of course I like my "Quorn turkey" fine - I just wish it "looked better", ya know?

14. I don't think that the Tofurky roast has changed one iota.
To me, it's the exact same as it has been for years and years. Their other products have definitely improved over time.

The best "traditional turkey" replacement I've ever had was the Unturkey. Hot diggity damn, but that was good.

it was delicious, but I couldn't swing the $20.00 sale price. Maybe next year!

17. I finally tried this. It was much better than I had expected.

However, rather than baking it, I used the slice-and-fry method for some extra mouth-feel, and I wasn't disappointed. :D

Have you tried the Gardein stuffed-turkey package? It's good, but fairly small--2 small lumps, and 1 serving per person would be a bit stingy for the holidays, I think. But it has a nice taste, and it's much more convenient than going through the hassle of basting a Tofurkey while it bakes.

19. I haven't tried the Gardein one.
Matter of fact, I don't think I've seen that one yet. I'll have to look for it. Thanks for the mention.

22. It's hard to find...even on the Gardein site.
I had to look under "food service" to find the page, but here it is:

18. We bought a field roast at WF on this recommendation
We will probably use the Field Roast over the holidays. We had a Match stuffed vegan Holiday roast which was fabulous. Match is wonderful they have everything, crab, italian sausage, ground beef, pork it is so good you really cant tell the difference. All vegan products. I made stuffed peppers with daiya which were just wonderful.

21. I am sure we will. I looked at the Match site, we can buy Match
at the grocery store So I had never looked at the shipping part but the prices are the same as the grocery store so that is a good deal. Surprised to see their holiday roast was sold out! My husband does most of the cooking most of the time lucky me.
