Damn your militant food choice!
I saw this over on the CNN Eatocracy page:

http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2010/11/16/lunchtime-poll-the-vegetarian-at-the-thanksgiving-table/?hpt=Sbin

Quoth commenters on our recent post It's not Thanksgiving without...:

"It's not Thanksgiving for me without meatless stuffing with extra celery, onion, pepper and herbs. Also, mashed potatoes with the skin still on. I'm a vegetarian so Tofurkey and meatless gravy. It's more delicious than people realize! - jillmarie"

And a response:

"That sounds like a pretty sad meal, Jillmarie. I feel sorry for people like you who can't put your militant food choices aside for just one day in order to enjoy a nice traditional meal. - deedee"

Fer fuck's sake, this gal simply talks about what her Thanksgiving dinner is going to be and now she is a pathetic militant. :puke: "deedee" needs to get a fucking grip and take a look in the mirror -- methinks it's not "jillmarie" who is the militant.

1. I have never understood
The "just pick the meat out" crowd. Like it is somehow better that an animal died so I could throw it in the garbage?

2. Believe it or not --
that is how I started on the road to vegetarianism. I would pick the pepperoni off pizza. :D It took me around a year of doing that before I "got it" and went full veg. After 22 years with me as a veg, my Mom will sometimes still slip and tell me to "pick it off".

3. My mother was a "can't you just pick the meat out?" type.
One year my husband replied, "So, you wouldn't mind doing just a little bit of heroin?" We never heard the 'pick the meat out' comment again.
