Let us discuss pasta sauce.
I make my own, sometimes using a base from a jar. I must tell of a new discovery. I picked up a couple jars of this sauce at the Whole Foods or whatever to use as a base. 99% organic, and not priced like it. I had to have a taste before I worked my flvegan marinara magic on the final concoction. Wow. This may be the perfect pre-made jar sauce in the world that's under 5 bucks a jar.

It's from Organicville, the Tomato Basil version. It's just fantastic. Vegan, gluten free, yada yada yada. Yummy. Two thumbs up.

So what are you using?

1. *want*
I'll remember this. I wish my Whole Foods was closer, I get to go sometimes but mostly I'm limited to what I can get at Trader Joe's and Giant.. they've gotten a lot better though, my Giant could actually carry this, I'll look.
Mostly I've been using whatever says organic on it. Usually when I make pasta I use the vegan 'sausage', some brands of that are great.

2. Is it better tasting than Paul Newman Tomato Basil?

I know it is more organic, but I like Paul in the jar for a short cut. Tell us about your magic fix up of the organic jar.

3. I definitely think so.
The Paul Newman variety is good (as is Amy's Premium, but at $7/jar is too pricey).

I can't publish my full fix-up, as that will threaten national security. But, I will tell you that it varies depending on how thick I want it to be. I add additional chunks of veggies and a few fresh spices (none of the powdered stuff), almost all organic. Yes, I grind/chop the garlic, etc myself. My sauce can take 3-4 hours to make.

4. Newman's is under 4 bucks here, so that is my sauce base.

I do the fresh organic veggies and garlic also. Can you hint about your fresh spice mix? I will try your suggested sauce base next!

5. OT: Organicville also makes some great vegan dressings.
IIRC, they make a non-dairy ranch that is really quite nice.

6. Safeway's Organics brand has a nice tomato & basil sauce
& a roasted garlic sauce. Both are sugar free, gluten free, etc. They are pretty good. When I have time, I grab a couple of cans of organic tomato paste, water, lots & lots of garlic, some herbs & cook my own.

My local HFS has started carrying DeBoles Organic pasta. We've tried several varieties & all are great. http://www.deboles.com/
